no, it isnt.
it just makes them more self conscious which makes them turn to something that never disappoints and gives satisfaction - food.
the best thing is to show good example - show that and how you take care of your body (healthy, balanced diet and exercise)

I want to try to answer your question, but I find myself wondering if you really are that insensitive, seriously. Your precept it totally wrong...making fun of obese people, or anyone for that matter who's personal habits you wish to change, is never effective nor does it provide any positive motivation. Your other precept about cruelness being tough love is alarming. Apparently you are the by-product of such an environment, for which I feel the deepest sadness for you. The combination of both precepts is an unhealthy mixture for anyone to have in their personality makeup. So, what's next? Small animal torture to further numb yourself from any human feelings of pity and remorse before you start random killing? Get some professional help, Friend, and the sooner, the better.

I am so sad when I see the concept of "tough love" being misused, yet again. Tough love means making someone you love accept accountability for their own behavior and with your love foremost in your mind, you help them find a solution.
Finding the best solution rarely means making fun, or being cruel. The only time this works is if you are a successful comedian like Carlos Mencia. For most of us, it does not lead to a good outcome.

I think it's the fact that Victor still hasn't totally recovered from Sabrina. Don't forget that Ashley was still finding evidence of Sabrina suddenly appearing (that purple dress she wore to the gala, for example) and still hearing voices over the phone, telling Ashley it is Sabrina herself. I think that baby Ashley heard crying was the baby Victor would have had, had Sabrina still lived. I think Ashley needs to sit Victor down, alone, and encourage him to open up about Sabrina. She will need to do a job coaxing him, as Victor is the king of deny, deny, deny, forget the past, let's focus on the present and future. It will be hard to do that until we get this mystery solved. And yes, I DO believe that Adam is really blind.

Ok.... this is the most ridiculous thing I've read all day. Probably all week!
We should never make fun of ANYONE! Instead we should be a little understanding, compassionate, and patient.
Until you've walked in someone else's shoes you shouldn't judge them. Treat them how YOU would want people to treat you.

being someone who is obese I know being made fun of really does not help and has created more problems losing weight for me. why do you think weight watchers and other support groups were created? its because ignorant pigs like yourself get their rocks off making fun of overweight people. Hell I've lost 92lbs in 7months and i did it with support and friends and I wish you could have gone through the pain I did of being tormented by people like you. just know what comes around goes around.

A lot of obese people eat to suppress emotional hurt and pain. So treating them that way is not helping, it's prolonging the problem, or making it worse.

Heck No. That is hurtful and can actually cause them to gain more weight, or in severe cases, cause them to develope an eating disorder.
Don't be rude, just leave them alone. "Tough love" as you say, is NOT a solution.

Um no. have you ever heard of the idea, depression it pretty much says pick on them, they get upset and they will eat more to make themselves feel better because 90 percent of the time thats the coping method. your contributing to the problem may want to rethink your actions.
be supportive and try to get them off the couch if they are your friends go to the gym and walks dont knock on them
