How many more? And why?
Peace Now.

When we have to choose between winning or losing a war - unpopular as wars are - we limit our vision of what we are truly trying to do. In this war it's called stopping terrorism, however, Afghans enjoy a commodity we want.. opium based heroin. And there is a gigantic market for the stuff. Ever ask why no bombs ever fall on the Gaza Strip in the Golan Heights? Opium! Fields of it as far as the eye can see. Dan Rather went there and reported on it some 30-40 years ago and still not one bomb has fallen there. Not a single blaze! Hmmmm. Kind of like the diamond thing in South Africa. Cities there can mine almost 1/4 million USD a day and yet they (the citizens) don't have running water. Stop buying and close the markets and the truth shall prevail... eventually. Maybe then we can talk about oil, and after that... terror. Still not sure about winning or losing. Nor do I know who it is will win or lose. Or if that's even a real possibility.
You are very correct, however, it comes down to greed. And there is enough of that to go around for everyone.

The idea of combating terror on the basis on war alone is a strategy bound to fail. The threat of terror can not be won in conventional war terms through the use of aggression. There is not one known mass threat from a nation we can invade. In order to defeat the threat of terror we must strike fast hard and with a vengeance against world poverty and the under educated masses where hate and intolerance breed. When the United States regains its footing as the world leader in defending freedom, spreading liberty and helping people at home and around the world, then we will find the threats of terror diminishing. To begin in the world community we have no choice but to stay focused and encourage the world community to help stabilize and rebuild Iraq. Here we need to lift our own citizens out of poverty and educate all Americans to understand their role here and in the global community in which we now live.

I think, I believe that if we did not concern ourselves with the court of world opinion, both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are entirely winnable. The war on terror however, is an entirely different matter. As politically incorrect as it is, let's face it, the war on terror is actually a clash of culture and religious beliefs. To win it, one will have to be completely and utterly wiped off the face of the earth. What is the likelihood of that? So, being that one is sworn to kill the other (Chapter 9 of the Qu'ran spells this out quite nicely), how DO we learn to live in peace? Insulation VS Isolation?

This is not a "war on terror" this is a "war of terror" launched by the United States against innocent citizens of the world. The US goal is the domination of the world economy.
The United States successfully invaded and now occupies a strategic place in the Middle East. This helps the economy by enabling the control of oil, increasing the sale of weapons, and the allowing the import of drugs.
Both Democrats and Republicans will continue to back our presence in the Middle East for another two decades despite the "liberal" rhetoric. For background, check out the query "CIA drugs" and "Peak Oil". I'm not just making this stuff up like a conservative talk show personality.

Absolutely correct!! We know that there are sleeper cell's in our country and our allies. Wash DC is nothing more than a game of chess - to see who has the best legacy - giving a rat's behind on what the people want!!! My theory is that 9/11 was a mistake on those that flew the airplanes that day. They did not realize that they were going to cause so much destruction. Now they have to come up with a so called bigger bang- and they are patient enough to wait for a bigger disaster.

the war on terror is not being fought, it's not in Iraq and it's not in Afghanistan, The taliban originated from, operates from and are in Pakistan, which by the way where Osama is, which everybody and his uncle seems to know but has somehow bypassed our military intellegence, but we can't go to Pakistan can we, they are our allies , besides we need them, what with China and India surging ahead at full steam, i mean why else did we provide them with nuclear technology, if not to curb those two. \If we want to win the war on terror , we need to curb our foreign policy, which only serves to protect the interest of our largest corporations, we need to be the leaders in cooperation, humanity, environment and democracy, unforunately we've lost track of that, we've gone from heroes of the world 50 years ago to one of the most hated nations in the history of mankind, maybe some us can sleep at night with that, but i rather we look at ourselves in the mirror and start acting like leaders of the free world....

To discuss the war intelligently you need to start by defining your terms clearly and exactly.
What is "winning"?
What is "losing"?
The phrase "war on terror" is ridiculous. It is designed to scare you because it is emotion-laden, not rational.
The fact is that terror is an emotion. You are responsible for your own emotions. If you cannot deal with your own emotion of terror you do not need a military solution. You need a psychiatrist.

I agree with you. The battle has already been lost years ago.
So many countries in the middle east hate us and always have. We can't control these people!! It is no longer just one villian we can go after like Suddam or Bin Laden, it's to big now. For god sakes we liberated a country from a dictator and they still hate us and kill our troops!!

The USA is the top terrorist organization in the world. So you will never win the war because somebody will always be fighting to take top spot or to get your foot off their neck.
