I just bought a beautiful chandelier for my little girl's (well, fetus'!!!) nursery, but when I received it, it was a lot bigger than I imagined. It seems way to big for her nursery, but I thought that buy painting the walls a certain way, I could make the room look taller and thus the chandelier, not so big. Her room colors are pink and green.

***I seem to recall that painting a color on the majority of the bottom of the wall, and then a diff. color on like 1.5 - 2 feet of the top of the wall makes it look bigger, is this right? If so, darker color on the bottom or top?***

I'm an interior design student and what we were taught to do is get smaller scale furniture. if u have book cases or wardrobs, make sure they are small. Only put small undersized pictures on the wall. Use vertical strips, if ur painting. Paint the bottom half of the wall dark (if u don't want strips) or if u have a window in the room.,hang the window coverings all the way at the ceiling and make sure they touch the floor

Darker color on the bottom, or the ceiling will feel like it is closing in. If you could paint one wall (preferably the end of the room where the chandelier is) in vertical stripes of pink and green, that will make the wall seem taller.

If you think that the chandelier is too big it probally is, You dont want people to come into the room and all they see is the fixture. If you paint the walls the two different colours like you stated it is going to make the room seem even shorter because you have ended the one colour farther down the wall giving the room more of a "stubby" or shorter appearance, rather than going right to the ceiling and giving the illusion of height.

What does the chandlier look like?
Anyways to answer the question is any windows that she has in her room you can higher the curtains to almost the ceiling. Even though the windows are lower. That is what we did in our living room because most of the rooms are vaulted ceilings besides our living room. So this makes it look a lot taller then what it is. Also my girls room is painted half one color (on top) and another color (on the bottom) and it also makes the room look taller and bigger, Hopefully this helped.

You are supposed to paint the walls a light color(light yellow, light blue, etc.) and you are supposed to paint the walls and ceiling the same color. I would do away with the chandelier- why don't you put it in you dining room? However, the molding can be a different color.

Boy, I hate to rain on your parade. But that light fixture will be the focal point for the whole room and will draw the eye. If it's too big for the room, all the faux painting in the world won't fix that. I say take it back.

I think you should sell it to me. I love the shabby chic look and want one for my bedroom. I could put your big one in the dining room and the smaller one I just bought for the dining room could go in my bedroom. How cool. If you ask guys, you will get a guy's opinion. Ask decorators, lol! I really am looking for a second one. Good luck!

ok no offense but why on Earth would you buy a chandelier for a babies room? That's excessive and kinda tacky. It's a baby, not the King of England. Do you really think the kids gonna care about that while he/she is shitting his pamper? no offense lady, but you really blew your money there...
