I ask this because I have seen people put more emphasis on their tomes than on their God.
Also, Why do people worship prophets whenever they are supposed to only worship God?
To those that say they don't worship a prophet, then why do you pray to them when you are only supposed to pray to God?

Let me clarify to all of you:
some muslims pray to muhammed for guidance
Some jews to moses
some christians to Jesus (If you believe Jesus was God, why did he talk to himself so much then?)
there are multiple religons that pray to their propher instead of their god, not just one.

I clicked on this question to say that there are those in this forum that would tell God, if He were to come to them that He was not God, and God wasn't real.
Then I read the details of your question, once I clicked on it, and instead wanted to ask exactly what you mean by worshipping prophets. I do not pray to, nor do I worship prophets. If you are referring to Jesus, then you are seriously misinformed, sir.
I think that is what you mean, because He is the only one besides God the Father that I pray to, or worship. If that is what you mean, then I must tell you that you are way off in wnat you are insinuating. Christ was no mere prophet. He is God, come to earth in the flesh to provide reconciliation between God and men. He is the Son of Man, the Lord and Savior of the world. The only begotten son of God, and it is right to pray to Him. He is worthy of our praise and worship.
You call yourself agnostic, but if you are calling Jesus Christ a prophet, then you proceed and speak from an Islamic point of understanding, and not a Christian one. This is sad. To reject the son of God will bring you nothing but regret in the end. You lose.

I know that all religious tomes are in some part incorrect because they are written by humans who are fallible. Praying to a prophet is easier to some because it puts a human face on the divine. For some it is much easier to worship something they can see than a mystical force.

When God comes to me I listen. If He were to tell me something that seem really far out I would confer with my spiritual teachers and advisors before acting on it. If after that I discerned that it was indeed God and His truth, yes, I would follow it.
We only worship God. We pray to Saints asking them to pray with and for us. We also talk directly to God. We are taught, from the beginning of the Christian church that we can ask anyone on this side or the other side to pray with us. Christianity is not just a religion of you and God. It is a religion of Community. The body of Christ is the church. And the church is both the one here on earth and the one in heaven.

Any entity claiming to be god would have to prove the case beyond reasonable dispute. Since god is presumed to know all, an adequate proof would be a description of the ultimate theory of everything, including how it determines the fundamental physical constants. Einstein spent the last years of his life looking for such a theory, and never found it; neither has anyone else.

I believe in prophets. I believe living prophets walk the earth today. I HAVE NEVER WORSHIPED THEM!! 10 commandments "Thou shalt not...!" I only pray to God in the name of the Son and by the power of the Holy Ghost.

(Revelation 22:18-19) “I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19Â and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll.
God protects his Bible from being drastically altered.

I would believe HER. What do you have to assume that God has a penis?
And just as you ask for the prayers of the living, the faithful also ask the prayers of those who have passed (the prophets and saints) because we believe they are living.

If I believed it were God speaking to me, of course I would believe what was said. As to the rest of your question, I can not answer as I don't do that.
