my dog sunny is 8 yrs old. After 2 years of having her she would cry all of the time. It was so sad. We'd play with her but she'd just cry. We thought she was lonley so we got a new dog to keep her company. She loves our new dog starry who is now 6 but than after another 2 years she started crying again. We believed that this could be because starry is a lap dog and sunny is a golden retriever who loves to run around and play. So we got a third dog, a coonhound mix. Sunny loved this dog so much and than she died. The crying started up again. We got one last dog whom Sunny loves, but only after having this dog for 1 year Sunny is crying! I dont know why. She goes to the vet every 4 months. And we play with her all of the time! Why is she sad? We cant get another dog. What can I do to help sunny?

I dont know if we can get another dog because our neibors constantly call the poliece because of barking, although the dog officer says that our dogs do bark, but never go past the illigall mark of barking for 15 minutes.

Also she is 8 years old. She is very protective and doesnt like meeting new dogs that dont live with her. She can get bitter around dogs she doesnt know but once she gets to know them she loves them.

She is not crying for her first owners because we were her first owners.

some dogs just whine when they are bored, or tired. We had a dog that did this very same thing. After trying a hundred different things we just ignored her. It helped some. Sometimes I will tell her to stoppit, and she will for a while. I foster dogs and pups, so we aways had dogs around. But what really seemed to help her was when I got A kitten to foster once. We ended up keeping the kitten because Girl loved him so much. Now they follow each other around. And when Girl starts to whine Boy will come to her, or I will tell her to go find him. It really helped.

Why do you think Sunny is sad? Her 'crying' doesn't mean she's sad, it's just another way she's trying to communicate with you!
Buy a good book on dog behavior. You will be fascinated to learn about the ways they communicate!
It sounds like Sunny has a wonderful family, I'm sure she's not sad! Perhaps she 'cries' because she knows that will get you to give her attention!
Have fun with your dogs and try not to worry so much...

It sounds like Sunny has you pretty well trained. She cries; you play with her. She cries; you get her another dog. See a pattern here?
If you take her to the vet that often and she's healthy, I'd guess she's hustling you. Dogs are pretty clever little critters. I have 3 and they're world class hustlers. Not to mention spoiled rotten.

Why does she go to the vet every 4 months? If she has a chronic illness, that could be the reason. Or, she could be depressed, in which case certain drugs could help. Or she may have a hypoactive thyroid, which I know personally can cause depression. Ask the vet to run a blood panel.

I'm not sure what you mean by your dog crying, but dogs might make funny noise if they're in pain for some reason. Could go see a vet to get x-ray or something. Just to make sure your dog didn't swallow anything that might cause pain inside.

It might be because she's never had puppies.
We have a 5 year old Shepard-Terrier mix who is female, and is constantly napping and quite sad. We have another dog who is also fixed.
She may feel sad because she's never had puppies, but of course it could be anything. Who were her previous owners, and if you bought her when she was a pup, maybe she was taken away from the litter too soon?
Hope that helps.

She may be mourning for her first parents (owners)
Imagine being separated from the ones you love.
My dog cries at the door when I leave.
Dogs minds are just like a childs That never grow older than a 4 year old in thought

Are you sure she is sad? I mean the crying, are you sure it is out of sadness? She may be whineing for attention, or for other reasons. Maybe she has some sort of depression. Have you asked the vet about the crying? Maybe it is in pain maybe she has arthritis and her joints ache and she is crying because it hurts. I would mention it to the vet and see what he suggests.
