It can manifest itself in a lot of different ways. For some, it's a minor burning or "empty stomach" feeling that travels into the lower esophagus after eating spicy or citric acid-heavy foods, like tomato sauces, etc. For others, it's a jarring pain, coming on suddenly in sleep or a state of rest. (i.e. lying down) Both can be treated with antacids, but stronger prescriptions are needed depending on the situation and severity. In some cases, it can feel like mild heart attack pains; sharp, frequent pains that are coming from the stomach sometimes push up further. This is usually known as G.E.R.D and is the actual disease, rather than just heartburn. Hope this helped you out and answered your question.

Your esophagus, stomach. Duodenum. Basically from your voice box to the intestine,

I have never heard it affecting someones heart even though it is referred to as heartburn. If you get esophageal ulcers or any ulcers, you can get very ill and die and recurring ulcers may later turn to cancer.

See you Doctor asap. You will probably get a number of tests but one of the more common treatments is Prilosec or similar medicines.

I've had this probably since high school ( about 35 years ago) but once the ulcers went away with treatment, I take on Prilosec a day and am fine. The reflux part can be more dangerous if you eat a meal just before bed. You may end up choking on your own acid/vomit in the night.

Definitely se a Doctor.

It can effect your esophagus if you have had it and are not treating it with antacids. I can't say for sure, but I would not imagine it would affect your hearth.
