Ireland is famous for knits. They have tons of sheep there. Fair Isle knitting patterns originate in Ireland. Ireland also exported preserved much of the wisdom of Greece and Rome during the Dark Ages of Europe, when people were encouraged to remain illiterate and uneducated. There's a wonderful book on the subject: How the Irish Saved Civilizaton.
From the CIA World Factbook, Ireland's agriculture has been dwarfed by industry and services. Industries include "steel, lead, zinc, silver, aluminum, barite, and gypsum mining processing; food products, brewing, textiles, clothing; chemicals, pharmaceuticals; machinery, rail transportation equipment, passenger and commercial vehicles, ship construction and refurbishment; glass and crystal; software, and tourism." They export some oil and "machinery and equipment, computers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals; live animals, and animal products."

St Patrick is not a made up person, he lived in the 5th century and originally came from Wales. he was captured to be a slave when he was sixteen years old and was taken to Ireland. He stayed there fro 6 years then he escaped. he became a Christian priest and was later made a Bishop. He spent a lot of time in Ireland as a missionary, converting the Irish to Christianity. I don't know how accurate the story is about him driving all the snakes out of Ireland - I think that is a myth to explain why there are no snakes in Ireland
