This has happened twice to me in the last month. It is always right after it is started up, and driven for approximately 5 minutes or so. It's almost as if I have to let the car warm up for a few minutes, and it's not even cold outside. I took it too a repair shop that specializes in Volvos after the first time, but nothing was found wrong. They even commented, saying that I bought a great car. Any answers are appreciated.

It sounds like arching wires and or plugs or you have a code in the computer that needs to be cleared.

Sounds like a characteristic problem that a lot of Volvos had in this time period. The throttle body positioner corrodes and then works intermittantly. It can drive you crazy, because in the beginning, no trouble codes are generated and the computer will say the car is fine... it just dies intermittently. NHTSA has a file open on this issue and Volvo has a 'secret' 200,000 mile replacement warranty on the part, but for the first failures, they will just clean the corrosion, which will give you another 40,000 miles. Eventually the thing will fail totally and the dealer will replace it for free. until then, it's about a $100 fix each time. Just tell them it's a throttle body problem.

Mine has never died, but twice when I tried to start it I got a messeage something like "start prevented" or something like that. Kept trying and it eventually started.
Mine has a rough idle. Runs/drives good. But the idle sometimes shakes the whole damn car.
Mine is '03 S60 AWD.
