There are a few ways. One is to delete the files/dir where the guest OS is sitting. Some other options are,

In the vmware console, if the guest OS is listed on the Favorites sidebar, then right-click it, and select "Delete from Disk". If your Favorites isn't displaying then select "View-Favorites" or hit "F9".

You can also select the guest OS and select "VM - Delete from Disk."

This is assuming VMWare workstation. VMware Server would have similar instructions.

close vmware and then delete the dir/folder that contains the virtual machine
