I need to KNOW what category of Engineering I'm doing here!!! I keep getting conflicting advice and it's keeping me from focusing on what course of action to start my own Home Designing Business!!! I have no formal training...just plain talent. Please help!

I love drawing and designing floor plans and houses.
This is what I do: I design a floor plan and fill it in according to my creativity. Then I imagine and create a 2D drawing of what the house would look like on the outside. Sometimes I'll pick a room and draw the interior design and furnishings of that room.

I've been told it was Drafting. Then I was mainly told it was Mechanical Engineering for a long time. Then I was told it was Civil Engineering! I was told I didn't need to spend 5-6 years getting a Degree and Certification (for Architecture). Then I was told that I should. I'm confused.

By the way, I don't want to build bridges roads and do surveying!

You have to ask yourself what you enjoy doing most. From the info on your questrion, three propfessions are involved. Those who design floor plans are architects. (the draftsman simply draws, based on the design of the architect). the person who builds houses are civil engineers or building contractors. you definitely need some kind of license to do this kind of job. The person who picks a room, and designs the interiors and furnishings of the room is an interior designner. I don't know if this needs a licenses in the US ( in our country Philippines, you can do it without a license, although the big accounts go to licensed outfits, the designers are graduates of a fine arts or architecture course).

I hope this helps to clear the confusion.

What you're deciding on falls somewhere between architecture and interior design. If you work withing existing structures you could do what you want as an interior designer. Some states have licensing requirements in this area, some do not. Either way it is a good idea to take a course in this area. I've heard that some are less than a year long.

If you want to make the structure itself, as well as the interior decorations, this involves a degree as an architect. It is at least a four year degree, which includes the basic undergraduate requirements like History and sociology. Elements of Civil Engineering will be included in an architect's education, but it will leave out the bridge and road building parts.

When practicing in business, an architect will often need a civil engineer to sign off on his structural plans, but this is a good idea no matter how good you think you are.

As you draw building floor plans you have been doing Architectural Drafting. You have not been doing Mechanical Engineering Drafting. The floor plan is the second step in designing a dwelling or building. I comes after the criteria of what is wanted are established. The floor plan shows where everything goes.
Then the Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering , Mechanical Engineerig (HVAC, plumbing) and Structural Engineering are employed to show how to put it all together so it will work. You can draw a floor plan, but can you desigh a roof truss or size ductwork for the selected A/C, size and arrange the the wiring, all to the building codes ?
You will have to have licenced designers/contractors both design and install the components to make a working facility from the initial floor plan.

Architects are typically the ones who design the look of a building, and how it all fits together. They often work closely with civil or construction engineers, who are intimately familiar with how to build things that won't fall down. Depending on what kinds of drawings you are making, it could be applied to either. If you mainly enjoy designing how something would look, that's more related to architecture. If you like the nitty gritty 'how am I going to build this thing' side of it, engineering is probably more for you. Either side would be a minimum of 4 years for a degree. Architects typically take at least 6 years to get licensed, and certainly a big part of architecture is learning enough about how thing stay up that your designs are realistic.

>one: the social intellegence : Air and fireplace signs and symptoms 2:psychological intellegence : earth and water signs and symptoms< so a thoughts because the divisions bypass, you've merely arise with a sparkling call for what develop into once suggested as and nonetheless are, "masculine signs and symptoms" fireplace and air, and woman signs and symptoms earth and water . Neither has something to do with intelligence. Masculine signs and symptoms are also suggested as "sensible" and woman signs and symptoms are also suggested as "unfavourable." Masculine signs and symptoms have a tendency to be extra assertive. female signs and symptoms have a tendency to be extra reactive. if you only comprehend solar signs and symptoms it does not recommend that there are not any assertive Pisces (George Washington) or Scorpios (Gen George Patton) or no reactive Aquarians (Alan Alda) or Libras (Truman Capote). i'm relating the signs and symptoms, not the guy solar signs and symptoms.
