I don't think it's a bad idea at all. I did my own hair for prom, while my friend had hers done at a salon. Her curls fell out during the first half hour, mine lasted the whole night.
Do some practice runs before hand so you'll feel comfortable with the extensions and you'll know how much time to give yourself prom night. And give yourself a Plan B if the extensions don't work out on prom night (bun/updo/sparkly hair clip, etc).

If you do not practice doing your hair and just randomly do something the night of your prom, then it may come out bad.
I would first try some hairstyles on your own before it is time for the prom and then if you find one you like, make sure its easy for you to do again. But it is the prom, I would defiantly just get it done, you'll know it will look good.

my first instinct when I first saw the question what to say "sure just keep it simple"...then I read on....
you already spent $145 on extensions...do you want to have spent that money to end up looking like it's fake hair?
Let someone who knows what they are doing, and can see the back of your head for that matter do it.
You spent all that money-y cheap out now?

No, not at all. If you feel confident enough at doing it yourself then why waste the money. And seeing as you already bought the hairpiece, then that's another reason to do it yourself.
I got my hair done for prom and it didn't look all that great, I probably could have done it the same myself.
Hope you have a great prom! x

Not if you practice until every time you put on the extensions your hair looks like it was just done at the salon. Otherwise, for this special time, if you can afford it have it done professionally.

nicely, you may desire to absolutely get extentions because prom is particular and each thing approximately you may desire to be! get a clean weave, braids tied in a bun or put in extentions which you persist with glue(unsure what its called) yet after doing that, you are able to tie some right into a bun and go away some mendacity down or tie it up in a french bun and go away some on the two element or your head(you are able to curl those)!

if you know what your doin and how you want it I say go for it...but if your not sure go to the hair salon...remember its your prom and you want to look like a queen...I say get it done by someone who knows what they are doin, wether its you or someone else...but you'll make the right decision. Have fun at your prom!!

That's a bad idea only if you're bad at doing your own hair.
