I understand that the concept of not believing in God is strange to some Christians. And that God, to them, is as factual as the air we breath. Furthermore, I get that all of you are trying to save us, and that you're trying to convert people to your religion because, in your mind it's the right thing to do. I get it, I really do.
However, why do some Christians get so riled up and furious over atheists? Claiming we're not American, and we can only see through science, and we're "blind fools" and so on? I've always trying my hardest to be tolerant of everybody's religion, and though I'll state my views and maybe tease, I've never directly insulted someone's religion (or a person for believing in a certain religion).
What I'm basically trying to say is, why do some Christians think atheists are so horrible?

Personally, the idea of heaven/hell frightens me--I don't like the thought of life being a test, nor of the thought that many of my family members would be doomed to hell. I don't like the thought of being under control of someone way more powerful than I am. I prefer to believe that I have to work to make a purpose in life, rather than having one already 'planned'. I like being able to pick and choose what *I* believe to be moral and just. I like the thought that my death will be like going to sleep, rather than continuing on forever.
On top of it all, I personally find most things in religion illogical (no offense).
There are many reasons that I, personally, choose not to be religious. While I respect and understand that other people do, and probably prefer to, I just don't.

Those "christians" who get riled up, are not truly christians. they need to step back and examine their own ways before they try to change someone elses. "how can you remove the straw from your brothers eye when you cannot see the rafter in your own."

They are probably so blind sighted by their own beliefs that they cannot understand why others don't see things the way they do. You can compare it to two people fighting over the color of an object. One may feel that it is blue while the other thinks its purple. Both feel strong about their opinion and refuse to change it. This is similar to Christians and Atheists, they believe what they think is right and the other is unable to change their mind. This discrepancy between the two may cause a "fight" between the two, resulting in either side bad mouthing the other.

I don't think atheists are horrible people (well, maybe some of the ones who write stupid and offensive questions because they're to cowardly to say those things to a Christian personalIy) in general. I know atheists who might have better morals than some Christians I know. But don't you think it's better to believe in God? Have you ever heard of Blaise Paschal or his wager? Here it is: it's better to believe in God because if you do believe and God doesn't exist, then there is no harm done; but if you don't believe and He does exist, you're in big trouble. See what I mean about it being better to believe?

Each person has to decide for themselves whether to believe the claims of Jesus Christ, that He is the only way to the Father. If a person chooses to reject Him, the bible says that person, after death, will be judged and sent to hell for all eternity.
If you, or anyone else, don't believe any of this, that's up to you. It doesn't infuriate me at all. I've already made my choice.
And I cannot "convert" anyone. All I can do is point the way to Jesus. Not in anger, not in threat, but, just because I believe without Him, a person is lost for all of time. It's still their choice.

It is not wrong not to believe in God! The reason some christians think atheists are so horrible is because atheists threaten their whole being, and way of thinking and deep down they sense atheists just might be right! This scares christians to the bones!

A Christian that thinks atheists are horrible is a Christian in name only, a hypocrite at best. To understand Christianity is to be tolerant of all others. It is good to open the door and hold it open and invite a guest in, but to judge them if they are comfortable where they are is to be spiritually dead. I can only imagine that after the first death, many will be willing to come through the door on their own steam because they will be thinking, "enough is enough."

Everyone has the freedom to believe in or not to believe in God. i can close my eyes real tight and tell my self to believe the sun is not shining, but does that mean it doesn't exist? I could stay indoors and paint all of my windows black, and close the curtains, but that doesn't make the sun stop shining and go away. Sooner or later you have to go outside and face life. Same with God, He still loves you and keeps on loving you just the same, no matter how hard you try and block Him out. He is as real as the sunshine is in the sky rises and sets everyday. And sooner or later we all die and face God, The only difference, is christians choose to believe now and be ready to meet God, heaven is open to all who will believe. Hell is only meant for those who believe they don't need help being righteous, and who love doing whatever it is they love to do in this life, more than God. God is very much a Gentleman, and He will not stand in anyones way, if that's their choice. It is not God who sends anyone to hell. God loves everyone and wants us to live on after we die. But it is purely our choice what that will be like. It's your choice.
Best thing i can tell you, is to stop listening to all these people and religions, and just search this out for your self. Don't let people make up your mind what "you" believe in or not. Seek God out for one week, and you will find out He is real and very Loving and Kind. In the end, after everything else is all said and done, it's just going to just you and God. It won't matter to Him what other people think or did to make you reject Him, His concerns going to be with you, and why you chose to believe what you do. It's too late then to apolgize and ask Him to forgive you. He'll only show to you all the times you were told, and what you decided for yourself.

You're asking why people that believe in illogical stories behave illogically. Why a religion that prides itself on forgiveness and kindness is frightfully unforgiving and hateful. Why it's own center of belief (Jesus/God) has little to no connection with the book they base their beliefs on and claim it to be the word of God.
Save your time and just accept they aren't rationally thinking people when it comes to issues dealing with their religion.

Quite honestly, if heaven means spending eternity with the holier-than-thou intolerant bigots that call themselves Christians who frequent Y!A, then hell will be OK by me.
