My best friends sister is getting married in 2 months and she asked me if I would play some solo acoustic guitar before the ceremony, and play a song as they walk down the aisle. No singing involved (thank god). I'm a decent guitar player, but I don't practice too much these days. She said I could play anything I want, probably like 4 songs, but I don't have any idea of instrumental type songs I can pull off...What do I do? I don't want to tell her no, but I'm a little nervous to play for 75 people, even though I've done it in the past.

How close are you to the bride?
OK so you say Yes. It's a great way to do a lot of good things. Get you in playing shape again, give her some really memorable moments for her wedding album, give her a one-of-a-kind wedding present, make your best friend proud. Yea there are a lot of pluses. so here's what you may wish to do.
Meet with Bride and pick the music - RIGHT AWAY - you don't have a lot of time. Don't pick anything too elaborate - you need 6 songs, right? (she asked for 4 but always have 2 for a back up just in case things run a tad behind schedule). some nice solo guitar pieces are - At Last (Etta James), Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (Bach), And I love Her (Beetles) maybe a couple of standard hymns, Haste to the Wedding (Irish traditional jig - played slowly it's a very sweet melody) Love me tender (Elvis is great it's also known as Aura Lee)
You can do this. It'll be fine.

Well, you have two options. Tell her no, or find a way to get through it. If you choose to tell her no, then you could have a little trouble, but I'm sure nothing major. If you choose to get through it, then just practice a little more, choose your songs, and get through it. If you have trouble choosing songs, ask her what songs she would like to hear. Keep her and her fiance in the loop, so you don't play something that they could hate. Just practice each day, doubling the amount of time you spend with the guitar. Maybe even ask if you can get someone else up there with you, so not all the pressure is on you. Good Luck, either way.

Purcell's trumpet voluntary in D is doable. Jesu joy of our desiring, to a wild rose by MacDowell, you can always ask them what they want. Go to the sites I listed below and if you don't find everything you need there. go to Delcamp.net and join them. The first link is just a listing of music that one player does for weddings. Should give you some ideas. Good luck with your project and let me know if you need more help.

The love theme from Titanic, Endless love, if you go for classical stuff the Avemaria, Nella Fantasia, You Raise me Up, You are so Beautiful to Me. Or sound your friend for her likes.
Check out the sites below for ideas. I take it you can read guitar music scores, you only need to practice. I'm sure you will give your best and that certainly makes for wonderful music.

It's her wedding, typically the bride and groom pick out the songs they like! The easiest thing to do is to get a wedding music book and pick out a few songs to strum. Once you have the songs picked out: practice, practice, practice! Playing for weddings is an easy way to get your name known a little, and a little extra cash!

Perhaps she really enjoys your playing and just wanted to give you a reason to start practicing again!
