I have seen Bass simulators that mount under car seats and reproduce the bass thump without the noise. What are they called and where do you find them?

I think you mean what are called "bass shakers", or "bass kickers." These are basically modified speaker transducers that attach directly to either the bottom of seats, (or if you want to live dangerously, to the body of your car....)

One problem with these, is that they are a serious waste of electricity. Another is that vibration frequencies that are low enough to be easily felt, are well below the audible range, and are often dropped from recordings altogether. Besides, the novelty of using these for music wears off pretty quickly, and they become more of an annoyance, unless you are watching a movie with with a good LFE channel....

Using these in cars is illegal in some areas, as they sometimes have the habit of producing more sound outside the car than inside...

The best known ones are made by Aura, and they're called bass shakers. You can find some at this link:

They're best used in combination with a bass speaker, not as a substitute for one.

Another name for these devices is "tactile transducer".
