Lets face it, although some Athiests are very intelligent, often the most radicle, seem to wear blinders and filter anything that does not fit their little objective world out. I am not pointing this question at ALL Athiests, only those whose goal is to convert others to there way of thinking. I am sure I too wear rose colored glasses, however, I see no evidence to disprove the possibility of God. Therefore, I am glad to have faith. So, is radicle Athieisim a religion in itself? One of blinders and denial?

I am Native and NOT a Christian, As American as Mount Rushmore. : ) We have our own worldviews and spirituality, WE define ourselves. Are you in denial?

Some children are afraid they will get coal in their stocking. Most likely by radicle Athiests. : )

Perhaps, having those blinders in your head, it blocks you from seeing God. : )

Look up athiest? I have, and radical athiests are just as negative as the Christians and Spiritual people they claim they want to destroy. Earth is not an object, when will you open your head? When in denial call people names, you are so funny..........

It is your own fault that you cannot see God. You did it to yourself! Spelling and proper classified english has nothing to do with anything. It shows you are threatened and in denial. Can't you stand the fact that America thinks of you as a radicle Athiest? Look it up.

I love Creator. I fear bifurcated people! I fear people who think in terms of objects and materialism. It is what you do not see that is what is important. Understand? Who knows, maybe Spirit will present itself to you. : ) You might have to wear goggles for that though....

Caveman brother, good answer! I do not dislike Athiests (sp) but some are very critical when threatened : ) Perhaps when it comes to Marx and Hitler, some think Ahtiests are authoritarean and overly critical and objective. Marx seems to have been Spiritual, while he did say, "religion is the opium of the masses". So as Hitler, also into religion. Objectivity is the opium of radicle Athiests.... Or the denial of what they cannot see, here, or feel, so in fear, denial of it, protects their childish minds.......

2007-04-28 13:56:24 · update #7

OK, Radical, atheist. : ) And didn't Mark Twain say that in English there are many ways to spell the same word. When we stoop to calling folks names and being critical, the logical explanation is that you are in denial. Extremly ethnocentric....... It is the same thing for those who are casting stones as it is for the others who are casting them. There is liitle difference between mean people who use religion or being an Atheist to harm others. It is a psychological mechanisim utilized to filter out anything that hurts your egotistical ideology.

Alright, walk in objective peace and thanks for the spelling lesson : )

The fact that there is no evidence to disprove the concept of some sort of creator, is still nor reason to start believing in it. So many claims made by all kinds of religious groups and people (christianity included) are no less than ridiculous.
I'm the kind of atheist that doesn't mind people to have faith. I don't need to convert anyone to atheism. The problems starts when religious people want to oppress their religion upon others, who do not have those beliefs. The fact is that there are still many people that not only have faith, but blind faith in the word of the bible or quran. This can make them potentially threatening for atheists, and even to the worlds peace (as far as that exists today). Everybody knows that atheists are the most hated people by the Abrahamic religions, just because their books say so. Many atheists just want to offer these indoctrinated people some reason, to see their religion in the historical context it deserves. Because they want peace.

If you're asking if there are some atheists who are completely unwilling to listen to anything else outside of what they believe, or even consider any possibility that there could be something out there that they don't know of, (those who won't admit that no one knows with 100% CERTAINTY whether or not there is a higher power) then yes, there probably are. All belief systems have their extremes.
As to whether or not it is because they fear God, then no. It is not because they fear God. Atheists really and truly believe that there is no God, and therefore, they certainly don't fear God. I think the ones who are more militant are so more because they fear what RELIGION can do, and has done. There are some believers out there that are MUCH more frightening than anything they can imagine from God. And those are people that you don't want to give an INCH to.

I'm not afraid of God but I am afraid of the impact Christians are having on the United States and the world. In particular this crap about "the last days" and "the rapture". It's like I'm driving down the interstate with a van full of people and then I find out some of them think hitting a tractor trailer head on would be a pretty cool thing.

Every time I see some ****** evangelist selling water for 20 dollars a pop and I realize that he buys the airtime because there are actually people stupid enough to buy it, my opinion of humanity as a whole drops down another notch. And when George Bush tells of talking to God and getting the thumbs up before he sent all those boys over to Iraq to kill and be killed I fell like I want to vomit.

Dont know...but that holds true with more than just religion...look at politics and driving. There are very good reasons not to drive offensively, but people are in their safe little coccoon and drive with utter selfishness. It's really the state of the nation anymore. Look at Iraq...what a nightmare, and all for political/financial gain. W couldn't care less about the Iraqi people (and neither could I bit I didnt invade their Country). Wonder how much $ he's made since Oil prices have spiked so high...

No, I don't think so. I think most atheists simply request proof. Most are more educated that the general population, most were once of a faith based religion, and most came to their conclusions by reading the bible, and concluding that it is a holy book no different that other holy books, all which claim to have the truth, and they all can't have it, can they?

Also, many are like me, historians, who became interested in the development of the bible. Further, they simply look at reality..... here we are, 6.5 billion people on a tiny grain of sand in a universe as large as Colorado. It is unlikely anything created this, and if so, who created the creator? Even fundamental christians haven't an answer to that last question. And finally, evolution is soooo beautiful and sooo understandable to the educated mind --- educated in geology, astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology---- that evolution is just the most logical answer.

Atheism is not a religion, it's no belief in a God/Diety. I've often heard from the devout that an Atheist has to have just as much faith that there is NO God as one that believes there is. RUBBISH!

As far as your claim that we try to convert people to our belief, no, I don't know ANYONE that tries to convert people to Atheism unlike some crazy funamentalist Christian standing on some corner spouting scripture, telling people the world will end soon, that we must find the Lord and all that other hocus pocus crap. We're not like Holy Rollers that knock on everyone's freakin' door or walking around offering "Free" prayers. I truly don't mind you people so long as you DON"T bother me. I mean seriously, do I have to wear an "I'm an Atheist, so get away from me you f'ing psycho" T-shirt? Sometimes I think I do.

Have fun with your faith bud. May the Flying Spaghetti Monster bless you with meatballs.

I think you fear your own God much more than the Atheists do. I think that is what bothers you. They don't go around like children afraid to waken their angry drunk Father with a terrible Wrath. Like you, some Atheists have a view of the world that no ammount of silly arguments will change. Some of them, just like some of you, would even argue in the face of real, physical evidence. Many Christians argue against the theory of evolution, despite mountains of evidence compiled by neutral researchers using the scientific method. Is that a 'blinder', or isn't it? Some Atheists could be face-to-face with your god and still argue he doesn't exist. You just have to learn to live with each other.

If anything, I fear the thought of life being a test. Of all my family going to hell (as quite a few are non-Christian). I fear an eternal life (one word: boring).

To be honest, religion has nothing going for me, personally. I can understand why others believe in it, it's just not for me.

So I'm following your same logic backwards: I see no evidence to prove God, so I'm glad to be faithless.

I wouldn't consider any religion full of "blinders and denial", as nothing has proof, and any one of us could turn out to be right in the end. So, I kind of view all religions, or lack thereof, as possibly valid. Christians might have it right, but who knows?

There is in fact no evidence to disprove the existence of god; nor is there any to prove it. It provably follows that to believe in god is totally useless: it can have no consequences in the real world. So, why bother? As for faith, it is not only evil, it is the ultimate evil: it is the deliberate rejection of the essence of one's humanity: the ability to think logically. The intelligent atheist therefore advocates that all should adopt this position, for their own benefit (think of all the time and effort people waste on religion) as well as for the benefit of society as a whole.

Why would an atheist fear what they do not believe exists. That would also make them fear Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth fairy and we all know none of them are real and people do not fear what they do not believe to be real.

Atheism is not a religion, if anything it is its opposite. Atheism is the denial of any deity and the religion attached to it.
