Is american military might a myth???

is the american military as strong as americans make it out to be?? how much stronger is their military than ours??

I think its a little over hyped. The british empire was controlled by 30000 soldiers and the Royal Navy. The US have 150000+ soldiers jus in Iraq. Now some may say that Iraq is more advanced than the world was at the time of the British Empire but it was also more advanced than Britain was ( back then BTW ). No matter how many gadgets you have only one thing wins a war and thats humans. As a Brit i believe our soldiers are far superiour to the US' due to many years of having to cope with less equipment and rely more on the own ability. Ability always beats machines

American Military Might simply has not been shown to the world in recent years.

America has had to come to terms with it's defeat in Vietnam, a long and slow healing process, which is still under way.

America [USA] is capable of considerably more than we have seen thus far in the War on Terror. It is not just military might, it is technology which the Americans have at a military level which is simply not available to the enemies of Freedom, Liberty and Democracy.

The world knows this.

We are probably the most powerful nation on earth, however we have spent our money unwisely, or at least the 75% they can find!

Our conventional military is not the strongest, or even close! China is probably the most powerful conventionally, then Russia, especially if we tried the same stupid winter tactics that froze the German army to death!

We are probably when you throw high tech and nukes into the fold. However, we can only guess at China's, and it is probably more formidable than thought!

I fail to see any use for nukes unless we wanted to kill everyone! Waste of money! However I would hate to see them all launched. What a nightmare that would be, unless you were like the Japanese and vaporized!

[am british] i belive that our armys (british and american) are better at different things. for instance, the british have had centries of war (now called 'conflict') and have basically taken out anyone that we have come against... this gives us an edge on the battlefield as we we dont go into sheer cannon fodder like our american freinds, rather hightly trained, motivated troops. obvouisly, this has suffered in recent years due to cuts, cuts, cuts; (and now we are spending £25billon in trident!!) but we are still an effective long standing force. our counter-terrorism is excellent in comparison (see basra, malaysia in the 50's, and the iranian embassy siege for details.)

However, that aside, american equipment is truly excellent. british troops reported that their boots were melting in the early days of iraq, but the americans were having no such problems. amercian technology is excellent, (see the american airforce for details.) although i think that the americans have the money to push anything though, and , rather than rely on actual fighting (men on the ground) to get a job done , call up an airstrike. this is what makes the americans effective; and, due to the very nature of the war in iraq, not suited to the fighting there.

in conclusion i deem that the armys are good for different things... added to that i rather fight beside a british trooper than an american any day!! (my flag waving over :D )

and to think a little old virus and some sex can wipe out more than our armies can. Seem if we let genocide do its thing - we just send some air duster plane with some HIV and piece is just around the corner. No I don't believe what I just said is correct - in fact it is sick as any war is. But how do we stop genocide that is already happening and how do we insure that all humans have an equal chance on freedom ?
