Here in Thailand, if your dog annoys a neighbour, by barking too much or chasing motorbikes, they simply poison it! Probably with Rat poison...
I am worried that that may happen sometime to my lovely Girls.
So if I ever saw them looking sick is there anything I could do?
Should I have an antidote standing by.......? If so what?

This happened to my dog in the UK we believe someone was poisoning local dogs. We didnt know until late at night when he started having fits etc it was awful to see by the time he got to the vets it was no good the vet thought he would be ok but he died in the morning.
There is nothing you can do if it happens once its in there its in. But keep your dogs inside with you and keep an eye when you take them out if they sniff anything on the floors make sure they arent eating it before you move on.

Well don't let your dogs bark too much, or chase motorbikes, or any of the other things that can annoy picky neighbours. You shouldn't have to worry about it if you keep them trained, and out of trouble.

The only way to have an antidote, would be if you knew what they were going to be poisoned with. IF you had some idea what people were using, ie the rat poison, which would be like Vitamin K, but it's maybe a shot?!?

I think the best thing you can do is try to prevent it from ever happening. If you can, try to keep the dogs inside the house especially at night. If you keep them outside and they are barking a lot at night chances are your neighboors are going to be upset with you and your animals. Here in the US most cities have noice ordinances so if someone keeps a dog outside who barks a lot you can call the police and they usually give the owner a ticket. If one of your animals is ever poisoned, the only thing you can do is take him to the veterinarian. If not, the dog will die for sure. There is nothing you can do for them at home if they are poisoned particularly if it's rat poisoning. I saw on TV the other day a couple whose dog was poisoned with rat poisoning by accident and they took him to the vet but the dog died at the hospital. The way rat poisoning works is by liquifying all the organs so the dog bleeds to death from the inside out. If you suspect that one of your dogs has been poisoned the best thing you can do is take him to the vet immediately. If you wait even one day it will be too late and he'll probably die a very painful death. Good luck with your dogs.

That is appalling - is it legal?

I would always have the emergency vets number with you - and you could talk to your vet about this - find out what poisons are generally used and what they would recommend you do as first aid prior to a vet arriving - and whehter you could move them or whether the vet would have to come out - then at least if the worst does happen you know what to do without having to ask - you can just action it.

I hope that you never need to action the advice you have sought

I wouldn't recommend trying to treat poisoning by yourself. You'll need to have an idea of a local emergency vet clinic, for then they can properly help your dogs, if they're ever poisoned.

Consider keeping the dogs indoors, when you are away from home, to prevent anyone else from feeding your dogs anything that might be harmful to them.

You could find out what poisons are used and get appropriate antidotes in preparation. Also learn the correct procedure in giving dogs the kiss of life.

You should seek medical help ASAP if you suspect your dogs have ingested rat poison. Rat poison causes internal bleeding and they die within hours. Keep your dogs in sight at all times if you are worried for there well being.

first off have the vet's number near by in case something happens. my vet recommended that you put 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide down their throat if you know they have swallowed poison. this will induce vomiting immediately and if not give them another teaspoon. this will only work if it has been within 2 hours of eating the poison

If there is, go to a veternarian office and tell them that your dog is posioned. They will make the dog throw up the posion so it won't be harmed. Then they will monitor it for the day and give it back to you.
