Weight loss goal, ex. Lose 40 pounds by the end of this summer,or fitness goal,ex. exercise 5 times a week

They go hand in hand with each other, because if you exercise 5 times a week, you will lose weight. And, on the other hand to lose 40 pounds by the end of the summer, you have to exercise. So basically, if you exercise you lose weight, and if you want to lose weight you've got to exercise.

both. who says you only have to have one goal? if you exercise 5 times a week, you'll be more likely to lose 40 pounds

changing the lifestyle would be a better goal with getting regular exercise, losing weight, etc. as short term goals. also change the focus from losing "weight" to reducing the body fat to below average levels

Check with your doctor and once you have the okay, why not do both? Eating properly and exercising will have you reaching both these goals. Make sure you're at least 50lbs overweight before losing the 40lbs.
