#1-make sure he is not ill. If you are sure he is not ill and just mourning the loss of his friend, give him lots of extra attention and play time. After a time, you may want to introduce another new friend, but only if you think he will accept it.

Animals feel loss just like humans do. He's mourning the loss of his friend and will get over it in time. However, if he's not eating his food, then feed him the smelliest and tastiest food that he will eat, chicken livers (you can get in the butchers) lunch meat, tuna fish anything to get him to eat. If that doesn't work you'll need to take into the vet, they can give IV's for a couple of days to stimulate his appetite or you can have them prescribe appetite stimulants you give orally.

As long as your kitten is healthy then it will just be a matter of time before he gets over it. But please keep an eye on him and take to vet if you can't get him to eat any of the above food.

I lost two cats two weeks apart and the same thing happened to me with the second cat, she mourned, wouldn't eat, I took her to get appetite stimulants and had IV's done at the vets but she made her self sicker than she already was and I had to put her down. Everything I've told you is exactly what the vet told me to do with mine. And give lots of love and attention.

Good luck I hope your kitten is ok.

I am so sorry to hear about the kitty that was taken.
It would be most prudent to keep your cats indoors, especially in coyote country.
I agree with others that say get him another kitty friend and pay special attention to him. But most importantly keep him in the house!!!!
Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about the other kitty.your kitty just misses the other cat, give him time he'll come back around and will start eating better.(you can get another kitten out of the paper,or at the local animal shelter.)that way he has a friend again.

good luck =]]

Get another kitten right away. Same colors etc as lost kiten. Important: Name him/her the same name as lost kitten and be sure it is the same sex as lost kitty. Get new kitty at rescue shelter. I also lost cat to coyote. Sorry for your loss also.

Find him a playmate at an animal shelter or something. Animal shelters have cats and kittens looking for good homes.

When my cat lost her "sister," I switched to wet food to keep her eating. Her sister couldn't stomach the wet - it gave her intestinal problems - but when she died, it was the best way to give my remaining baby something to look forward to. It's been 4 years now and my cat is doing well.

Play with him and keep him indoors so he won't be taken by a coyote too. Giving him attention will help him overcome his grief.
