Christs struggle with the tax collecters is that if you take away their heaven they will be left in a world of unfullfilling longing, where releasing built up frustrations and a cash transaction for the benefit of the treasury is their only reward.

Are you trying to say that all tax collectors are Athiests or is there a deeper meaning to your question? Damn!! There I go with the sarcasm again!!
Seriously though, the tax collectors are doing better business than ever so what was the point of Christ bothering to point out their materialism. It hasn't stopped people being materialistic and in fact religion has been widely used to dupe people into handing over large amounts of money. Every religion has mass collections and some religions are incredibly wealthy institutions with huge property assets and more than a passing interest in the stock exchange. I think Athiests are generally sarcastic because they are not brainwashed by religion and see the irony of the whole god/jesus story and how it compares to real events in the world and in history.
I don't think Athiests are materialistic either. For my own part I am probably the least materialistic person in the world and am repulsed at the lengths people will go to and the moral compromises they make in order to acquire wealth. I think greed and materialism are human weakneses that affect people of all religious beliefs, which is surprising because such things are frowned upon by most religions. Are you beginning to see the irony?, Or should the word be hypocrisy? Damn, there I go with the sarcasm again.

1. It depends on your point of view. I would say that atheism can be humanist and need not be materialist or sarcastic. Although from the spiritual paradigm most things can come across as a bit materialist.
2. For me the point about tax collectors is that you should respect the temporal powers and also the Heavenly ones. The two coexist. Christ did not encourage people to break the law of the land or of heaven.

Sometimes if the question is stupid and the answer is a prospect to be funny, you can't simply resist. Btw why do you think sarcasm is wrong?
Sarcasm is a highly creative way to say "you are an idiot" without actually insulting the person and is funny as hell.

Snarky questions merit snarky answers.
Be aware of the attitude you project, and that will set your expectations of the replies appropriately. People tend to react negatively to self-righteousness.

Yes. They always call Christians bad things, and say we shouldn't help the suffering in the world. At least, that is my conclusion based upon the answers I've received from them. But, God still loves them, and we can only hope they see the light, lest they burn in hell with eternal damnation.
