The dentist. The one person that almost everyone is scared of. Every time you go there, you just have to wonder, what are they going to do to me? Why do I need it? Isn't drilling a hole through my tooth going to hurt? What's that? OOOOOOWW! Some people aren't afraid of the dentist. But it really is simple isn't it? To protect yourself, all you have to do is brush your teeth, twice a day. So why are we so afraid? Is it that nauseating smell? Or that freezing water they're putting in your mouth that make any tooth feel chilled to the bone? The world may never know. It's probably because people just get nervous because they can forget to brush their teeth once in a while, and think that they will get hurt because of that. Just remember to try your best to brush!

Last December I had my first root canal done! Damn, it wasn't all the work I had done it was the bill of $2,400.00 that scared the hell out of me!!!
I just recently went in for a cleaning and I could barely stay awake in the chair that day. Just being able to sit back and lie back and relax, even under those circumstances, was like being practically pampered...
It's only when I have to go to pay the bill that I get a sick and nervous feeling inside and that is my honest fear of the dealing with any dentist so far!!!!

The dentist scares me. I think it's pretty common. I talked to my dentist about it and he said statistics show out of all doctors, dentists are most feared. We talked about what scares me and that has really helped. I have awful teeth. They are straight, white and pretty but I'm prone to cavities. I usually have to get a filling as well. The last two years I put off replacing three fillings... guess what... I needed three root canals because of it. I do recommend letting him/her know your fears. Seeing a dentist is part of being healthy and now that he knows I'm overcoming a fear just by sitting in that chair, he talks to me prior to starting and is very gentle by making sure I am in no discomfort before proceeding to any additional steps.

I have only two phobias, the dentist and heights.
My dentist has a sign on her window that reads "We Cater To Cowards".
I've been terrified to the point of tears while sitting in her dentist's chair....I've seen calmer kids in her office. It's embarassing.
I had an experience with a sadistic dentist when I was a kid, and I imagine that's when this phobia developed.

Nope, no dentist fears, although I do have a fear of doctors. I've never had anything serious or painful done at the doctors or dentist, so I'm not sure where the doctor fear comes from, but it kinda explains why I don't fear my dentist.

I have had. Some can be quite clumsy even vicious with that pointy tool.
A good dentist is reassuring and gentle.
