Philosophy = the study of knowlege. Philosophy answers questions about the world in much the same way as does religion, but in addition, questions religion also. Philosophy of religion is a subdivision of philosophy and focuses on what is true and not true about the soul, which in philosophy, has been proven to exist (well, it hasn't been disproven at least, becaus in philosophy, nothing can be proven) Reiligion is more a set of rules and regulations that people are expected to abide by. One can have faith in a god without following a religion, a set of beliefs does not designate the set as a religion. Religious rules often have a basis in philosophy. Philosophy was the world's first science, studying everything from anatomy to the stars, and all the sciences we have now were once subdivisions of Philosophy. Religion often uses philosophy as a tool to justify the belief system and rules.

faith is a funds-making mission; in simple terms inspect each and each and every of the mega-church homes and televangelists with their very own deepest jets. Philosophy would not pay squat; you ultimately end up operating at Starbucks, in simple terms hoping that adverse to all odds sometime you'll make it onto Jeopardy! and there'll be a category about Nietsche. -- replace rationalization -- "Philosophy is a stroll on a slippery rock / faith is a grin on a canine" (Edie Brickell and the hot Bohemians)

for a long time they were one and the same. All knowledge and education pased through the church.

Philosophy is an attempt at learning and undestanding the world.

Religion- i don't know how to describe it without inadvertantly twisting the knife. It was once a matter of conveying learning but has become stagnant due to peoples loyalty to the book. Some suggest it's about control, and often it is. Victorian popes didn't have hired poisoners to play patty cake.

Take a philosophy class. It is supposed to teach rational thought to reach conclusions. You can't say that about religion. They are nothing alike.
