They all look pretty similar.

If you know that the dog is mixed with both of them, then just correct the vets mistake. They are people too. If you have had the dog long enough to enjoy it and love it, then why should it matter if it is a pitbull or a bulldog?

First registered in 1970 as the American Pit bulldog it was later renamed the American bulldog to avoid confusion with the American Pit bull Terrier.
Since they resemble Pitbull Terriers they can get confused. I'd have your vet list your dog correctly, having them list as a pit bull could cause problems for you down the road.

Don't worry about what your vet says when it comes to breed determination.. I don't think they learn a whole lot about specific breeds in school.. Just general dog / cat information. There are plenty of things that vets don't know about specific breeds and when it comes to deciding which is a pitbull and which isn't, well let's say that most people fail the test choosing the pitbulls from the list. Anything with a big head and teeth, tends to be marked as a pitbull..

There are any number of people who think that an American Bulldog is a member of the Pitt Bull family. I have a purebred American Staffordshire Terrier and most people see him and ask where did you get that big Pitt bull? Your dog may fool them , It probably has a squarer head with the rottie mix, Just tell them It is not a Pitt.

that's the thing about mutts, you can never really tell... I have a little mutt and his adoption papers say "Smooth Fox Terrier," so vet records say "jack russell," some say "terrier-x" some say "Jack Russell/Rat terrier"
it's nearly impossible to tell.
But, now I have questions for you ~ Why would you buy a mutt from a "breeder" and What's wrong with a pit bull that it wouldn't fit into your lifestyle? Do you like the dog currently? would knowing it's true breed make you feel differently about the dog?
If you post a pic, maybe we can help decide what the breed is.

does it really matter what your pet is as long as you love it. I mean you say its bulldog and rott well rotts can be just as mean as pitts. why wouldnt a pit fit into your lifestyle when its already in your life,. would you really get rid of your dog because it could be a pitbull. If thats the case then you probably dont need the dog....As a owner of a pit they can give alot of love and they aim to please you, tend to be stubborn at times but they arent that bad

If you never knew the difference what difference would the name of the breed have to do with your life style? He may be exactly what you said he was but to the vet he may have appeared to be a bit more like a pittbull. If you raise a dog right and treat them good they'll be wonderful animals. It has nothing to do with the name of a breed. Its the owner fault on how they act. So, if you planned on treating your dog well and with love and care you should have nothing to worry about it fitting into your lifestyle.

Well..."breeders" don't breed mixed breed dogs, so it's more than possible they didn't know what they were doing.
That said, people use the term "pitbull" for a number of dogs originallly bred for figthing.

Just because they wrote it down as that doen't make it correct. If you know for a fact that he doen't have any pitt in him then just correct their error. Vets aren't perfect you know.

pit-bull is a broad term for many dogs... If you dont know the breed and have proof of it then your vet would know best.
