The Bible says that God gave us the foundation of prophets and Apostles to help us until we all come in the unity of the faith, unto the stature of the fulness of Jesus Christ. That simply hasn't happened yet, so why would we assume there simply is no more need for these authorized ministers in Christ's Church? There is. Christ's Church, after the great apostasy when the Apostles were killed and the original gospel of Jesus Christ was combined with Greek Philosophies, particularly neo-platonism, disappeared from the earth. When the Apostles died they took the priesthood authority that Christ ordained them with. I testify that this same original Church has been restored through Joseph Smith, the prophet of the glorious restoration. I know that Peter was talking about The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints when he was talking about the "times of refreshing" and "the times of the restitution of all things." We have Apostles and prophets today in His Church. I know Gordon B. Hinckley is a Prophet of God. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Which prophets?

LOL! Of course the flaw in the theory that ther was a "great apostasy" other than the fact that there is NO evidence of such an occurrance, is that Jesus said that it would never happen and that the Church that He established along with the disciples would endure forever and that the gates of hell would not prevail against His Church. Joseph Smith resembles biblical teaching in that He is one of the false teaches that the Scriptures prophesied and his followers are those with "itching ears" rejecting sound doctrine, of which the Bible speaks.

The leadership established by Christ and the apostles for the Church are the successors of the apostles in apostlic succession.

There is apostacy in the church and prophets are still around. Prophets speak God's truth to people. What isn't around is revelation which is God speaking directly to people. That ended with the conclusion of the Bible.

Not sure what you mean. All people die eventually.

There are prophets alive today if that's what you mean.

I know one who has been declared a tested and proven prophet, by JP II, his name is Ralph Martin.
