You need to calculate what you eat now and what you need to maintain your current weight and then go from there. Also, 1,000 calories a day is too low... the problem is that if you lose weight too fast, your body will go into starvation mode, and you'll end up looking like one of those starving African kids with the big bellies. It's better to lose about 1-2 pounds a week but do it safely. Look to a combination of eating healthy foods and exercising to cut about 500 -700 calories a day for good weight loss that you can sustain.
