Global warming is happening. Temperature records clearly show that. The cause is the release of green house gasses by humans over the past 100 years or so. We cannot completely stop global warming but we can make it much worse by just continuing along our current path. The consequences of global warming will be with us for many centuries.
To minimize the effects we need to stop consuming fossil fuels, most especially coal as soon as possible. In the meantime we need to implement methods of capturing carbon dioxide exhaust to prevent it from escaping into the atmosphere.
Our energy future is with solar and wind power. We need to work as hard as we can to make solar and wind power practical. We need an "Apollo Program" for energy. We can reduce our carbon dioxide emissions by 80% by 2050 if we really try.
I consider global warming to be the greatest trial humans have ever faced and I am very very unhappy with our efforts over the past 6 years, during which our government has thwarted efforts to address global warming in every way possible. The money that has been wasted in Iraq, nearly 300 billion dollars could have been used to address global warming and the energy crisis. It makes me very very sad that we did not.

This is science. Individuals views don't matter. The data does.
"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”
Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command
Here are two summaries of the mountain of data that convinced Admiral Truly, short and long.

Wind and solar power can decrease global warming. But they're limited. We also need the big power you can get from nuclear.
The swindle movie (and it's "science") are wrong.
"A Channel 4 documentary claimed that climate change was a conspiratorial lie. But an analysis of the evidence it used shows the film was riddled with distortions and errors."
http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/climate_change/article2355956.ece
"Global cooling" is a myth. There were a few guys with theories and no data. Much like the global warming skeptics today.
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=13
We can't stop global warming at any reasonable cost. But we can reduce it enough so that we can deal with the effects. Full force, they will destroy our economy and kill a lot of people in poor countries by starvation.
Exactly how to balance efforts in reduction and coping is a worthy topic of debate. Saying that it isn't real or that we should do nothing to reduce it aren't.

My views would need to be published in weekly volumes for the next 10 years. I don't have time to write them and you wouldn’t want to waste your time reading them so I'll be brief.
I've studied GW for 23 years - the human causes, the natural causes, the arguments in favour of and those against. I've researched approximately 1200 articles and taken on board concurring and dissenting evidence and opinions.
Whilst nature certainly plays a part (as it always has done), it's not at all possible to attribute all the current warming to nature - that just wouldn't make sense at all and to do so would fail to account for so many inherent factors of GW. It would be a very simple and convenient way to explain GW but not a realistic one.
It's impossible to say precisely how much GW is attributable to humans. What we can do is look back over huge amounts of natural data and see what has happened in the past and use this to judge what would have happened if humans hadn't intervened. This gives us a fairly accurate picture of how nature would warmed the planet. When we compare this to what has actually happened there's a marked difference.
Instead of temperatures rising slowly and steadily they've been rising rapidly, more so in recent years. The rate at which they're rising is a direct correlation to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This isn't unusual, knowing how greenhouse gases and global warming work we're seeing what we'd expect to see and what has been predicted since the 1800's.
In short, humans have made a substantial contribution to the recent (last 200 years) of global warming. Yes the world would be warming without humans but much slower than it has been doing.
Wind power and solar power, along with other renewable energies, will help reduce the amount of global warming. They won't actually reduce global warming, just slow down the rate at which it's happening.
To reduce global warming means cutting greenhouse gas emissions to levels that can naturally be sustained and that involves a reduction far in excess of power generation alone, it would mean radical changes in agriculture, building methods, transportation and more.
Such drastic measures would throw us back into the stone age and no-one is willing to accept that, not even the most fanatical environmentalist. Other solutions are being considered which will enable us to live as we are doing but at the same time combat global warming by removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and / or by reducing the effects of the sun.

I believe in Climate change. Weather changes like last summer extremely hot weather, even winter are colder. There been increased in wildfires and drought, which been destroy the ecosystem, and cause more extinction of animal and plants. And probably heard about the glacier melting and sea level has been rising because the Carbon dioxide and other gases that have been trapping the sun heat in earth's atmosphere. This problem was caused by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests from humans' and it our responsibility to do something about. i believe who believe it hoaxes, are either go with bush admiration and Fossil Fuel Company who have been toning down climate change (global warming) so won’t seem as bad and there doing for money over well be of people and planet. i don't think there aware what of power we have on planet. Human are consider a dominate race, we have largest population, we create machine and change environments like the direction of river in way we like. We make houses and city skyscrapers, we guns, planes. We power to destroy whatever is in our path, and kill off an entire species and make it at stick. How not consider that power? There time when were going to see what wrong we done to earth, and try fix this global problem, for better than doing nothing. I know humans are not perfect and it natural to think of yourself cause it real thing we understand but once and while we need to think what going on around us, for world doesn’t center around you. Animal are valuable they keep the balance of life or circle of life, without them, the environment will be danger and which will endanger us. This planet earth has given us so many things like tree that bring the oxygen, a habit for animal and reduce carbon emissions and this planet is alive and belongs to animals as well. Even though we make mistakes that why we strive to do, that what makes us better people. I not trying to converge and change you into something your not, I just like you understand what I and perhaps many other see. 4 stop global warming sites

lets think this through. over the last 100 years, the average temperature in the world has gone up by 1 degree. do not be duped by one month of temperatures that are 30 degrees above normal. in california, temperatures have been way below normal, im freezing here, and crops are dying, because it has been so cold this month, so dont be duped by the weather for one month in one place.
over the last 100 years, the atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide have gone up from 0.031% to 0.037%(this is very well accepted fact), this a definite increase, and conventional wisdom says that this is causing horrible global warming. now think about this, if the ice caps are all melting, why is rhode island not under water. if the ice caps completely melted, the oceans would rise by 240 feet. look at 100 year old pictures of the beaches in rhode island, and you will see that they do not look any different today than they did 100 years ago. they actually are slightly different, sea level has risen by 5 inches over the last 100 years. common estimates state that we have burned 50% of all the oil that has existed in the world, ever, so the most we could burn would be as much as we have already burned (99% of which was during the last 100 years). so then ask yourself, how much effect could we really have on this.
now ask yourself this question: what would be the environmental impact of one nuclear bomb blowing up in manhattan. i believe that it would be much more catastrophic than all the global warming we are ever going to see. now ask yourself, what raises the chance of a nuclear bomb blowing up new york, washington, LA, etc. i think the biggest thing that does that is buying more oil from people that want to kill us and paying them trillions of dollars for that oil. the best thing you can do is to decrease use of oil, so that we buy less, decreasing the demand, and stopping the financing of countries that hate us, greedy oil companies, and contributing to global warming by using that fuel.
now ask yourself, what is the best way for the US to decrease the use of fossil fuels. everyone wants to conserve and all of that, but does that really do enough? the only thing that will decrease our use of these fuels is to raise the cost of using them. i propose that we raise the cost of these fuels by taxing them at a much higher rate than we currently do. it costs a lot to use these fuels in military, infrastructure, health, and other costs. we should stop using our income tax to subsidize the use of these fuels, and build the cost into the cost of things like gasoline, so raise the gas tax.
wind and solar would help, but decreasing consumption is much more important. the average american commutes 26 miles per day to work. if we could reduce that by 1 mile, to 25 miles per day (which is very reasonable), that would save more power than all the wind and solar projects are producing in the US right now.
write to me if you want to discuss further

The Earth has many problems because of man
this is undeniable ,how much we are responsible for Global warming is debateble ,But there is a definate change in Global temperatures that is affecting nature in a bad way.
this text only covers some aspects of Climate change ,mainly agriculture i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification
water and air polution such as caused by
industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,
and all of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions
there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms
climate change is caused in great parts by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man
the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions
in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result,
And now many animals are becoming sick because of changes in temperature ,
vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain
90% of the feral (wild) bee population in the United States has died out.
In the Netherlands bee diversity is down 80 percent in the sites researched, and that "bee species are declining or have become extinct in Britain."
wildflowers that depend on pollination have dropped by 70 percent
we are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs, of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.
everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more.
,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and most of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were few desserts.
collectively this planet is drying up ,
each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss
and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities.
Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.
This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.
The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil.
Over the last half century,
Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million
In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .
RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter
Global warming could be slowed down to some extent, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where, instead of just some third world countries Source(s) here are a 100 ways to help

The damage to people caused by really doing anything effective to stop it is worse than the effects of the warming itself. Silly little things like car pooling and energy saving light bulbs are far too little to help. We would need to put a $10 per gallon tax on gasoline, ban coal mining, force all people to pay $50,000 more for their house to have solar panels and other such extremely expensive things to have any real effect. The modest reduction goals of the Kyoto protocol, if fully achieved by all countries including the US, would only delay the warming a few years. And even those modest goals are not going to be met by any of the countries that did ratify the protocol, because it would simply destroy the economy if what is needed to meet the goals were really done.

I think warming is happening, but I also think the man made part is just the hot topic at the moment true are false its all about money on either side. business don't want to lose money and the scientist have to make it look as there are problems in every field so they can keep there jobs. I mean think about it if they would ever say there wasn't a problem with something think we would pay them to sit on there butts??
Don't get me wrong I think we should take care of our planet in any way possible, but this completely green way of life some people are so raticle about would just make things worse in my opinion. Like it or not our liking of oil is what keeps us the super power of the world... without it we would be just another poor country. The Oil Field in the USA supplies millions of jobs and is the true backbone to our economy and that my friend is not something we can change over night without going into another 1920's style depression.
I love my country and love our way of life and I think we can continue life as we know it and like it by going more green but it will take time and money its not something this country can do over night.

The theory of man-made global warming is false. Anyone who believes otherwise has not investigated the evidence or is purposely remaining ignorant to the legitimate opposition to global warming. I have given up an one and a half hours to watch “An Inconvenient Truth” so I ask you to do the same and watch the movie detailing the opposition.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4499562022478442170&q=great+global+warming+swindle.
Another general resource: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming_controversy
CO2 is not causing the globe to warm the opposite is true, the warming is increasing the atmospheric CO2. When the world heats it gradually increases the temperature of the oceans which serve as the largest CO2 sink. As the oceans heat up they release CO2 which is stored in them. The information comes from the same data Al Gore uses, the temperature always goes up before the concentration of CO2 goes up.
http://www.lavoisier.com.au/papers/articles/ninelieslaunch.pdf#search=%22vostok%20figure%20125%22
CO2 makes up only .03% of our atmosphere. Water vapor, another greenhouse gas, makes up 1-4% of our atmosphere, this gas is acknowledged to be the main greenhouse gas. All human activities combined contribute only 6 Gigatons of CO2 to the atmosphere each year. Animals, through respiration, decomposition, etc contribute 150 Gigatons of CO2 to the atmosphere. So humans contribute only a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere which is already in very small concentrations in the atmosphere.
http://oco.jpl.nasa.gov/science.html This is where my data came from, it is an interesting site, it displays the same graphics as Al Gore in his movie but it tells how low the human contribution is. So Al Gore is using the same data but coming to a different conclusion, who do you want to believe a politician with no scientific training or the NASA CO2 laboratory, a group of scientists who spend their entire careers studying CO2.
We know the greenhouse effect is real it is a necessary effect to keep our planet at a habitable temperature. However if our current warming is due to greenhouse gasses it would cause warming in the troposphere , but the troposphere is actually getting cooler.
http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/temperature/. That points to other explanations to our current warming.
So what is causing our current warming, it is the sun.
http://web.dmi.dk/solar-terrestrial/space_weather/
http://www.aip.org/enews/physnews/2003/split/642-2.html
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060926_solar_activity.html
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/08/040803093903.htm
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2003/17jan_solcon.htm
The fact that only the earth’s surface is warming points to direct heating from the sun rather than heating due to greenhouse gasses. Also other planets in our solar system are warming pointing to a common cause of warming, that common cause being the sun.

http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/solarsystem/mgs-092005-images.html
The global warming crowd says our glaciers are melting and animals will suffer this is another false claim.
http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/articles/V8/N46/EDIT.jsp
http://www.nationalcenter.org/NPA235.html
http://www.worldclimatereport.com/
The global warming crowd also claims a scientific consensus on the issue, this is wrong in two ways. One, there is no consensus, this is a false claim to make you believe in global warming by suppressing the opposition. http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm
Second, even if there was a consensus it would mean nothing, science is not politics, you don’t vote on theories to determine their legitimacy.
The thought that the only scientists who disagree with global warming are paid by oil companies is simply a stupid statement with no reality. This is the most illogical argument by people in support of global warming. Aside from being completely false it begs another question: Who pays global warming supporters? The answer is big environmental agencies that make millions off of global warming each year by teaching, publishing books, and selling environmentally clean products.
The IPCC is the main supporter of global warming, their statements are defended blindly by people who don’t want to admit that global warming is not real. People will claim that they took into account natural sources of CO2, they didn’t. Take a look for yourself:
http://www.ipcc.ch/activity/srccs/index.htm. That is the latest IPCC report, read the entire report, do a search of the documents, there is absolutely no mention of natural sources of CO2. The natural sources have been completely ignored. Also people will claim that the IPCC took the sun into account in their report, this is not entirely correct, while the sun is mentioned the report it’s effects have not been accurately represented.
http://www.john-daly.com/forcing/moderr.htm. The IPCC did not take into account the Svensmark factor. This would greatly reduce the effect of solar radiation on the earth. Look back up to the solar resources to see the effect of the sun correctly represented.
Also allegations have been by IPCC scientists who disagreed with the IPCC statements. They say that their research was censored or taken out of the IPCC report. This is not the first time the IPCC has lied, they forged the famous “hockey stick” graph, which later resulted in a reissuing of the IPCC report.
Quotes form politicians, CEO’s, and others are not proof of global warming, they issue these statements to get votes and customers. Scientists are able to get published and get time on the media by supporting global warming. The IPCC continually lies and misrepresents data so they keep their jobs.
In regards to the precautionary principle that says we can only help if we switch over to alternative energy, this idea is not correct. While this may seem legitimate it only helps the first world, third world countries can not afford to switch to the more expensive energy options. Also the US currently spends 4 billion dollars a year on global warming research which could be better spent on research for disease or to fight poverty. For an excellent example of how the precautionary principle is harmful you do not need to look further than DDT. This pesticide was cheap and incredibly effective but it was banned because of it harmful effects on egg shells. Now thousands of people die every year in third world countries because of malaria, a disease that could be easily controlled with DDT.
I hope anyone who believes in global warming they will take a look at the resources I provided. These resources should convince you that global warming is not man-made, it is caused by cycles in the earths climate. If you are not convinced I hope you at least take a new look at global warming as an unproven idea. Remember that global warming is big business for anyone who aligns themselves with it.
I could not go this entire post without mentioning global cooling. In the 1970’s it was claimed that there was a consensus on the fact that the world was headed into an ice age. We have seen once before how damaging a false claim about our climate change can be to our world. Most of the global warming crowd does not want you to know about this scare because it is so similar to the scare today. Government panels were formed and claimed the world was headed to an ice age, evidence poured in supporting the claim, a consensus was claimed, then the whole issue just faded away. That is what will happen with the false scare of global warming.
