MAX,
WILL YOU DIE FROM HAVING IT?
PROBABLY NOT.
WILL YOU LOSE YOUR TEETH IF YOU DON'T TREAT IT?
ULTIMATELY, YES.

If you have gingivitis, that means your gum tissue is inflamed, and unhealthy. You have bacteria settling under the gum line, that isn't being cleaned.

Let me break it down for you so you can see how this works:
First stage of gum disease: Gingivitis
Second Stage of gum disease: early periodontal problems, resulting in bone loss and deep Pockets around your teeth where the tissue has become unattached. Pocket numbers range from 3 1/2- 5 mm depending on oral habits.
Third is Moderate periodontal disease: this is where you have lost quite a bit of bone and your pockets are now up to 7-8mm in depth.
Fourth is Advanced periodontal disease: where the teeth no longer have the support required by the surrounding tissues and bone. The teeth usually are mobile, and on some occasions teeth are lost.
Even if you lose your teeth at that point, you will still have so little bone support, that a denture would not fit, and usually the be recommend treatment would be full mouth extraction, and over dentures. (with implants placed in the bone to support the dentures - because of the bone loss)

So, to answer your first part of your question: can you die from gingivitis?
There have been reports that show that your oral hygiene is directly related to your over all health. Also studies show that people with periodontal disease typically have severe heart problems.

Please take care of your teeth, while you still are able to manage them. Get your routine cleanings and check ups. The emotional distress one goes through when losing teeth is hard to see, let alone to imagine.

The answer is yes. But only if you let it get out of hand to where you develop a severe in infection (this would be called periodontitis). But there have also been studies done linking periodontal problems to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and other problems. So yes it can kill you indirectly. If you don't take care of gingivitis it can turn into periodontitis, your teeth will loosen up over time do to bone loss and in the end stages you will loose your teeth.

Healthy gums don't bleed when brushing so I think your plan of brushing twice a day and using mouthwash is great-but you should include flossing daily. Flossing is essential in getting rid of gingivitis. It's going to hurt and bleed at first, but once your gums are healthy it won't hurt/bleed at all. Good luck! :)
