How old are You? That makes a difference in your being able to care for your dog when you get one. Does everyone in your house work or go to school? You have a large job on your hands caring for a dog, puppies especially. If there is someone at home when you are a school that is the only good way to have a dog live in your house as a member of your family. You are the one responsible for any dog you get. unless your dog is for the whole family to care for. If you haven't cared for a puppy , You should get an older dog, that's already housebroken and has some training. A dog is a wonderful friend for your whole family, just make sure that everyone wants a dog. Again, you must accept responsibility for a dog, that includes poop clean up, brushing and walking your dog. Feeding, fresh water, and any illness the dog has besides the vaccinations, must be taken care of no matter what the cost if you are to really care for a dog. Dogs can be the best Friend your family could have. But you have to work to get the rewards of that frienship, not just stick it out in the back yard if you don't want to be a good owner.

I have no idea how your dad feels about a dog, but this is the response I wrote to another youngster that also wanted a dog which was selected as best anwer, which I hope you will read, as it is very important to have all families in favor of having a dog and just pressing if they really don't want, otherwise the dog ends up being the one that suffers, so sometimes it requires a whole heck of a lot more love to say, "not now, I will wait till I can provide the right home"

I would say one of the main worries a parent has about letting their kid get an animal is that they will end up doing all the work, all the poop scooping and feeding and care. Yes I've been there! Parents don't want this responsibility or expense.

Show him you can be responsible for something.. not just in words but in actions.

Good luck, trying to change a parents mind is hard to do. But it is best that you show your dad that you are willing and capable to take care of a dog, buy and read a dog training book, is a good start.

get the info
find a breed that fits your family and its lifestyle (size of your yard, how often you will exercise it, size of your house, size of your family, any small children? etc.)
prove that you are respocible to take care of it
show that you know what it takes to care for a dog by learning what you need to do. you will have to train it and that take A LOT of hard work.
and try to make some of the money yourself to pay for the dog. dogs are expensive. they can range from $200-2000 , then you will need a crate, food, leash, collar and vet visits

and BEG BEG BEG

eventually he will give in if you prove yourself because he will have no reason to say no

GOOD LUCK

Show lots of responsibility for a week or two & then ask again. If it doesnt work do it again but wait a week longer. But dogs are A HUGE responsibility. Trust me. I have A ST.Bernard pup & two english Bulldogs.

do your research and inform him of all the great characteristics and points of dogs and definetly show him how desperate you are and how much you want one!
also, just promise him that you'll take very good care of the dog, you'll take full responsibility of the dog, and you won't let the dog bother your dad when he doesn't want to be bothered by it. ^_^
