I would have joined if I could have, unfotunately I discovered I had very slight asthma right before I went to talk to the recruiter. I was planning on following 3 of my cousins into the Marines. I have many family and friends who have served in every branch, and while they all say boot camp is hard they never said it was insurmountable. And I truly feel that the worst thing there is is having nothing for which you are willing to fight.

I am just finishing up my first year in college. Before I decided which school to attend, I had given serious thought to joining the military. My dad was in the Marines, my uncle is in the Army along with my cousin, and my twin brother leaves in three months for the Navy. Had I not been given the opportunity to go to college, I think I would have joined as well. I don't know what to tell you about whether you should join or not; hopefully you can make a decision that you won't regret though- either way you go. Good luck!

I served in the Navy and Army. (at one time I served in both at the same time. It's a long story) It is stressful, mentally, emotionally, and physically, but not impossible. The Navy is obviously the easier of the two, and you will get training useful to a career outside the military, if you can get over the feelings of claustrophobia of being stuck on a ship.

First why do you say it might be too hard for you to handle? The decision to join the military is all about you and you're beliefs and needs--I personally wouldn't and when my son did join the Navy I was upset I told him"I would've work three jobs for you to go to Harvard" he said,"I know, Mom, that's why I joined the Navy" I went in my room and cried my eyes out but I have never been more proud of anyone in my entire life and no matter what happens with him in the future I will continue to be proud--but if there is no real reason to join don't--if you're afraid of failing don't

If given the chance I think I would. I had the chance. I was in ROTC but I wanted to be in. I was also into music so I dropped out of ROTC. I did get my degree...but working a nine to five sucks. I mean you work hard in the military but I feel the people you work with become your friends and family. Plus you get to travel and get great paid vacations. Great benefits and money for college. I think it's a great deal. I'm not very physical so boot camp is not in my future.

Than don't join. Although I wouldn't be worried about it being too hard. The army isn't designed to weed out kids early on... although in special units they will. It's basically to de-socialize you, and then re-socialize you to be a warrior. That's the main goal of basic training. That, and to obviously teach you how to use certain tools, weapons, how to work in the army. It's like a company that way you know, they train you. It's only different becuase they purposefully mold you into something.

the air force boot camp is a breeze compared to marine bootcamp that's 3 months long. plus in the airforce when u get 2 your permanent duty station, the living quarters r like having your own apartment.

I was enlisted in the US Navy for 11 years. It was hard, fun, crazy, sad, happy, great every emotion amplified. Would I do it again.... Yeah, if I could go back to someone in California. Sea or Shore duty, doesn't matter, as long as I can do both!

I spent 22 years in the navy. If you don't feel you're up to it then don't join. A man's got to know his limitations.

Best of luck.

No, I wouldn't. I served four years in the navy, back in the sixties. Being in the service isn't that hard, except for the possibility of being killed. I joined just after my 19th birthday, and had never been out of Michigan until then. During the first year I was in California for boot camp and school in San Fransisco. Then, I was in Rhode Island. Went to Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, The Virgin Islands, and Cuba. I spend another year in Rhode Island, then had my ship change home ports to Naples Italy. I spent the last year and a half living in Italy, and taking weekend trips to the Rivera, up to Germany, or anywhere I wanted in Europe. It was fun, but I wouldn't want to do it now.
