Guess you never worked in a restaurant.
1. You work your butt off.
2. It's hotter than Hades, so you sweat your butt off.
3. Once you've cooked all that food, all you want is a simple sandwich and something cold to drink.

Speaking as a foodie, I can tell you that I've prepare so many meals for so many people and the greatest joy I get from the preparation and hard work is the response from the people that eat the meals. I love taking care of the ones I love and I love food. But I sit down to a Thanksgiving Dinner that I have prepared for 30 people and eat about 2 tablespoons and I'm full. I think it's a combination of being around it all day and exhaustion, but i don't seem to have a problem with the control.

You spend most of the day in an environment that's a three-way cross between a sauna, a gym, and a circus. Between the heat and the constant movement, you get to the point of exhaustion where just the thought of putting a bite of food in your mouth is enough to induce nausea.
By the time you get home, the only thing you want is a cool shower to relax and get the greasy, icky feeling off your skin, followed by a cold beer and a salad or something equally light. And sometimes the cold beer is plenty by itself.

I'm not, in fact I lost a LOT of weight in the kitchen. I've only personally known one overweight chef and that's because he was REALLY lazy. In my case, it was a matter of seeing the same foods over and over and over again. After 90 pieces of prime rib, it didn't even sound good. If I did even eat at my own place, it was just a baked potato and salad and cottage cheese. You just aren't hungry after running your butt off, you're tired and just want a quick snack before getting home. And when I got home it would be a can of Spaghettios or ramen or a quesadilla at 1 a.m.
I used to get comments that I was too skinny to be a cook. "What? You don't eat your own food? What's wrong with it??" NOTHING, I was just sick of seeing the same s*** over and over and over again. It's a great way to work off weight. (Like, 50+ pounds!)

Most of the chefs today know how to make good food and how to add the right amount of ingredients to each food item. They also make sure that they don't add the wrong ingredients since most people today are actually watching their food intake and because a lot of people are actually on diets.

I'm not overweight and I think most just taste the food to insure quality. For the ones that are overweight, I just believe it's the same that they just eat too much and do too little exercise.

I worked as s sous chef many years ago, hard work, very fast environment, your tasting small amounts of your product to ensure good quality, that, coupled with the smells and you really aren't that hungry. Cold drink between work loads does the trick.

There was an article in Gourmet magazine a few months ago about this. The author followed a chef around for his entire day, wrote down everything he put in his mouth and sent it to a dietician to analyze exactly what he was consuming. It was very revealing. He ate way too much and most of it was fat.
