I'm vegan but I used to LOVE to bake. However, now I refuse to because I refuse to use eggs. When I told my friend, she said that she heard somewhere that half a banana can be used to substitute one egg while baking. Is this true? If not, are there any egg substitutes?

There are egg substitutes. You will find them usually where the cream and milk and other dairy products are. They are little cartons and clearly state egg substitute on them.

As for different substitutes to use for eggs these are ones I know of:
Use any ONE of the following recipes to substitute for eggs in baked foods.
For each egg, use:

1 tsp. baking powder, 1 Tbl. liquid, 1 Tbl. vinegar•

1 tsp. yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water•

1 Tbl. apricot puree•

1 1/2 Tbl. water, 1 1/2 Tbl. oil, 1 tsp. baking powder•

1 packet plain gelatin, 2 Tbl. warm water. Do not mix until ready to use.•

(baby food apricots are cheap and already pureed)

there are many egg substitutes.
1/2 banana or about 1/4 cup of mashed banana per egg
1 TBS applesauce
other fruit purees work but I am unsure of the exact measurements (I would guess same as the banana)
you can also try "vegan eggs" which are made with chia seed or flaxseed
(1 TPS ground chia or flax seeds +3 TBS Water =1 egg) mix well in a blender

I do not know what "egg substitutes" are sold in the store... I would reason they are some strange processed very unnatural edible substance. I highly recommend applesauce or banana. However, the vegan eggs work great too. there are many website that contain this information nowadays.

Use Apple Sauce to substitute for eggs (1/4 cup per egg); bananas are too dry.

Never heard of that. But they do have egg substitutes in the grocery stores in the egg section.

i have not heard of that. eggs often provide leavening for a recipe, bananas would not. maybe silken tofu would work.

i believe you can substitute fruit purees for oil/butter in a recipe.
