it depends on a couple of things: where the tattoo is placed
what colors are used
was it taken care of

if you get a tattoo on your foot or hands it will fade faster then that of other body parts.

black fades the slowest, other colors fade faster depending on skin tone.

you have to take care of your tattoo!!! otherwise you wont just be worrying about color fade.

remember all tattoos have the ability to fade, and for most of them its inevitable...its really a matter of getting it touched up by a good artist

Primarily it's a matter of where the tattoo is located & how much sun it sees. UV is lethal to ink and will fade any tattoo, although certain colors fare better than others. That's why the regulars are so down on folks who want to rush back to tanning as soon as they can. Sun isn't just bad for the skin - it wreaks havoc with ink as well.

Folks who've kept their tattoos out of the sun report they last a *long* time in fine condition, and at worst may need a touchup somewhere down the line.

There are several reasons.
- could be the ink, but if you went to a reputable shop, probably not the case.
- could be he artist didn't put the ink deep enough
- could be the way you took care of it
- could be the area where the tattoo was placed
