Catholics believe that when the bread and wine is consecrated it becomes Jesus Christ, body, blood, soul and divinity. Today Catholics can receive communion by the priest laying the host in their hands or putting it on their tongue. A Catholic must be in the state of grace (free of serious sin) to receive communion.

At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”
Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist (or Holy Communion), that through a miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.
With love in Christ.

Holy Eucharist
John 6:32, 51-52: "Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you; Moses gave you not bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven... I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is My Flesh, for the life of the world."

its at the age of about 12 , it is said that you are then old enough to have 'the spirit' , from then on you are alowed to 'go to communion' that means you can eat the little bread that is given to you during the messes.
Elderely people dont want to touch the little bread with their hands , because its a bot sacred , for rhemn only the priest is allowed to take it, so the elderly roll out their tongue to the priest who then puts the little bread on it.

Catholics believe communion is a reenactment of the the Crucifixion and by partaking the communion they are being forgiven of their sins. Other denominations believe it as Jesus said "In remembrance of him" and what he did on the cross for your sins

Wouldn't it be cool if it was the same thing as in the book Communion by Whitley Strieber?

It is when people recieve the body and blood of Christ when he said "do this in rememberance of me". The Catholic Church believes in the real presence of the body and blood of Christ. It has nothing to do with the forgiveness of sins. That's called Confession.
