The Arabic script doesnt show up properly on this site. So here is a picture:

The first word (on the RIGHT) is as-salaam, "PEACE"

Salam = سÙاÙ
= peace
Al-Salamu Alaikum = اÙسÙاÙ
عÙÙÙÙ
= peace be upon you (Hello)

Just to confuse issues...
Since the word following "al" starts with "s" --
"al" is pronounced "as"!
EDIT:
The Arabic script shows up when I look at it on this site.
You need to activate the Arabic (or International) character set in your software's Font Settings.
