There's no way to avoid withdrawals from oxycotin. If your friend wants to stop taking them it's going to have to be a slow reduction in the medication. your friend should consult the doctor that has prescribed this medicine and ask how much can be reduced at a time.

I have found a very effective way to help reduce some of the withdrawal symptoms.

Here is what I suggest to get someone over the worst part of the withdrawals.

The following treatment will help a person not go through such agony as you withdraw from the medication.

To help with the withdrawals take hot bathes with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. The skin is the biggest organ of elimination and this will help pull out the drugs. Use a loofa to clean the pores and this will help pull the drugs out even faster.

Drink lots of water and 2c. a day of fresh carrot juice, to flush the medicine out of your liver. You can take 500mg of calcium and magnesium twice a day to help you relax. Drink chamomile tea throughout the day and evening to help you stay relaxed.

Use a powdered fiber supplement twice daily to pull the drugs out of your intestines where they can store.

Two of the questionnaires in this forum did follow this program to withdraw from drugs and it did help. I've enclosed a link where you can read their response to this program.

If you have any further questions please let me know,

Generic Name: oxycodone

Do not crush, chew, or break controlled-release forms of oxycodone such as Oxycontin. Swallow them whole. They are specially formulated to release oxycodone slowly into your system. Breaking them would cause too much drug to be released into the blood at one time leading to a potentially fatal dose of oxycodone.

Oxycodone may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, other antihistamines, other pain relievers, anxiety medicines, seizure medicines, and muscle relaxants. Dangerous sedation, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur if oxycodone is taken with any of these medications.

Never take more oxycodone than is prescribed for you. Taking too much oxycodone could result in serious side effects, even death. If your pain is not being adequately treated, talk to your doctor.

Oxycodone is habit forming and should only be used under close supervision by patients with an alcohol or drug addiction.

Do not stop taking oxycodone suddenly if you have been taking it continuously for more than 5 to 7 days. Stopping suddenly could cause withdrawal symptoms and make you uncomfortable. Your doctor may want to gradually reduce the dose.

Symptoms of an oxycodone overdose include slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, loss of consciousness, coma, confusion, tiredness, cold and clammy skin, and small pupils. Seek emergency medical attention.

Its VERY TRUE that he cant just STOP taking them without not only going into massive withdrawals but also it being VERY dangerous to him and his health! If its time to stop taking them then the doctor will let him know. He will also start a regiment where he is slowly and safely weaned off of them!

It is in a class of opiates that are highly addictive. He is right, he will experience severe withdrawal if he goes cold turkey. He could check into a clinic and see if they could help him come off the drug. They are not just for drug abusers, they will help him to manage his pain without the use of such potent and addictive medication.
