I just helped a friend redo a bedroom with black accents and furnishings.
The walls we painted pure bright white, flat finish. The wood trim, entry door and closet doors we did Mandarin Red.
Curtains are solid red to match the trim.
Black is on the header above the sliding closet doors, the table/desk color (black granite), the bedframe and spread (the sheets and pillows are bright red like the trim), and the desk phone, bookcase, and some other small items like the wastebasket.
It makes a very bright and contemporary look.
We found virtually everything we didn't already have at IKEA for really cheap prices.
I'd just caution about painting stuff black, especially walls and trim. If you ever want to repaint it lighter, it's a pain, so I'd keep the black to the furnishings and not cover large areas in that dark color - even if you're Goth.

I love red with black. It gives a sharp clean look in a room. I would still paint all wood trim (doors and frames) in white. It is an expensive, artsy look with this color scheme. I don't think you would get tired of it anytime soon. Whatever you choose-Happy Painting!

Black goes with anything - every room needs something dark (black or chocolate brown) to "ground" it.
Using a pale or bright color with black and white accents is nice. Sky blue or celadon, for example, would work nicely.
It's really up to you - black is basically neutral, so you can make it work with anything.
