Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. They do protect your computer and you can keep updating them once in three days or so. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

The one thing to remember about spyware removers is that they all do something different. Unfortunately, spyware and malware changes so quickly that there's really not a single application that can do it all for you. You may have to try more than one.

There's one thing that you should know, however. There are plenty of FREE spyware removers available. Get one of those before you throw down your hard earned money to buy one. Paying for a spyware remover should be a last resort with so many good free removers on the market. A lot of times, a free package will do the job with you having to come out of pocket.

You can find some more information on spyware and spyware removers, as well as some free spyware remover downloads on this page:

Best combo is surprising enough a paid program and a free one. Zone Alarm (current version Pro 7) linked with grifsoft's AVG. Go and buy the latest ZoneAlarm firewall online at www.zonealarm.com and add www.grifsoft AVGfree edition to your protective arsenal. Can't get better unless you are connected to "the family."

AOL has free ones. I am using Active Security Monitor and Active Virus Shield. They seem to be very good. You need to be careful to not have more than one Virus scanner on your computer as they can cause interference.
