Because fear is a great motivator, especially when your trying to rack up the numbers to bring in more money - cause that's really all it's about, the sheeple just haven't realized it yet.

Not every sect or denomination chooses to do so but there are some that do despite the denials of christians. I was raised in a hellfire and brimstone Baptist church (odd for New England but there are a few of them around) that did not believe in living by the New Testament. For years all that we children heard is how we would go to hell and suffer if we stepped out of line. Some accepted that and merely believe and pass that on not only to the world in general but the next generation. Others like myself, thought outside the box and decided to leave.
See, my Reverend growing up truly believed in what he was saying, throwing the fire and brimstone from the pulpit and I have always found that to be more scary than anything else; that one would let themselves get so narrow-minded that anything else just doesn't register. So, it's a form of conditioning - some accept it, some reject it but those that accept it want you to adhere also which is why you get told you'll be hanging out in that lake of fire (which doesn't exist) by their standards.

Well that shows how much you dont know what Hell is, yes it is flames and torment, but not from one who is torturing souls that are lost by some demoniacal overlord, with a red suit and a pitchfork. Satan is neither lord of Hell, or prince there - he is the one for whom Hell was made for him and his angels that fell with him. Hell is reserved for those who do not accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. For the free gift by His grace made it available to all, if they did not want to accept it for the cleansing of sin for no sin will enter into Heaven, and God has made the provision by faith in Him, by grace - so who is to rightly say that God threatens them with eternal torture! It is Christ Jesus who died and took their Hell, there eternal lostness, separation from His Heavenly Father, and they refuse God's gracious offer, they spit on His Love, they call it "eternal torture" they call it "burn for infinity". Yet God's Love is still extended to the end of the age. Yet the choice be made, the gift must be accepted. What is there that you wouldn't choose such a gift, such a generous offer. You would accept a million dollars or more with conditions and terms if it was free. Yet you will not come to God who sets no conditions and terms only that you have to believe in His Name and ask for the forgiveness of those sins and He will justify the guilty clothe the naked, cleanse the unrighteous. Yet you charge God with folly. I wander who is more insane - te one that does not accept such a gift or the one who does and knows the goodness of God? Knows the Love of God, a new relationship in Christ. I wander who is the fool and the wise man who does not chose or who has chosen Christ by grace made strong.

Let's see, the Christian religion threaten nonbelievers with eternal torture... meaning hell.
Okay, and the nice Jews, what do they think of non-believers? They think they're doomed as well.
And the good Muslims, what do they say of the infidels? Oh, they are to dwell in eternal torment..
I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Most religions believe that their believers are rewarded and those who don't believe are punished. Makes sense to me..

Christianity is a religion mostly based in love, but it certainly conditions that love only to those who believe in the Christian concept of God.
If someone chooses not to believe in Christianity, then Christians quickly jump to say that we will go to hell. I don't understand how a loving and merciful love can contradict himself by violating the Free Will we were given.

hi scope, first and maximum nicely known, evaluate your self fortunate you're no longer a brainless individual who does each thing individuals command them to do. i could like to have a civilized verbal replace with you. regrettably nevertheless, i've got self assurance you're from america, and almost all of us believes in a god over there. So I doubt they are going to see it as harassment. I want you lots of success including your difficulty.

It's not what is threatened it is what the Bible promises. And it's not "if you don't believe in their religion." It's if you don't believe in Jesus. Specific religions have nothing to do with it. It is if you believe Jesus is the son of the Living God and are doing your best to live a holy life serving Him. It kind of goes into that judgement thing again. It's not up to us as people to judge other's but some people are hypocrites and some are not. The hypocrites give those of us that are truly trying to live right a bad name which isn't fair to us. We just have to pray that much more for those that practice that kind of thing.

Each belief system..has its beliefs...
aetheists believe they can do any kind of evil and there will be no punishment.
Christianity is based on the acceptance of Jesus as savior...this religion believes in eternal reward for good people and eternal punishment for evil people...we are saved from the punishment for sin if we repent and accept the price he paid for our redemption...Jesus promises compassion and forgiveness
why is either reward or punishment eternal? Because our spirits are immortal (therefore eternal) and we will live forever somewhere...in spirit form....after we die..
when Jesus was here...he prooved who he was and that his mission was true...we have a choice as to whether we accept Him or not......where we spend eternity is OUR choice...

You have a good point. It is hard to argue with that but everyone has sin and continue to sin and if anyone says they do not sin they are a fat lier.and that is a sin.Jesus is our only hope.Look at it this way God the Father is without sin.We have sin Jesus had no sin.Jesus took our punishment. So when we receive Jesus in our heart God sees Jesus .Not our sin.But how could you go to be with love(GOD) if you have hate in your heart.Don't this make common sense

Please tell us the sky is falling when the enemy horde is marching to our destruction....I think it is funny that all the metaphors liberals use against Christianity, they don't dare point out a fallacy or 2 about Islam. I believe the author of this question suffers from ignorance, it is okay to hate caucasians but anybody else rules...go back to your public school so you can make hamburgers for a living...
