I am NOT talking about ripped jeans, or baggy jeans. I am talking about a really nice pair of blue jeans, or a brand new pair of black jeans and a dressy top. My mother is insisting that it is wrong, and that I have to dress like I am going for a day at the office, in business office style slacks or a business/prudey looking dress.

The party is in a casul type of restaurant.

Just to add a note - I am not religious and do not consider myself catholic. I am just going because it is family and I was invited.

Crisp dark jeans ARE acceptible these days. I wear that sort of thing all the time, even to church.

PS. God doesn't really care what you wear.

Jeans are casual wear,no matter how dressy they are. Dresses are not all "prudey" ;I'm sure that you can find a nice dress to your liking,or dressy slacks made out of silk ,a silk-linen blend,or some other soft, flowy material. You can always contact the person giving the party to find out if it is appropriate to wear your jeans.
Also,it doesn't matter what your religious affiliation is;dressing appropriately is what matters here.Good manners are all tied up in every action that you do;your form of dress is a reflection on you, your knowledge of what is appropriate for what occasion,as well as your style. To be on the safe side, contact the party giver to see if your jeans and a dressy top would be appropriate for the party.

Even if the party itself is at a casual style restaurant, it is more respectful to dress up a little for the occasion.
Jeans of any kind are a little tacky in this situation.
Where a nice dress, or skirt and blouse. Keep in mind the meaning of the occasion and don't go too short.

You do not have to be too dressed up but make sure the top u wear is not too tight or the jeans, just be comfortable in what u wear use some heels along with the outfit u choose. Know who u are and what is acceptable to the ocassion.Go enjoy! Who are we to judge?

Well, it's kind of a dressy occasion, just wear something ya mom wants, it'll be over in a few hrs and you'll be back in jeans, kinda sucks, I always hate it but, just do the right thing, everyone else will be dressed up a tad, and uncomfortible, join the club. Doing this little thing for mom will pay of GREAT dividends (Like when you need something from her, hint, hint, play it "SMART" ;)

I recommend the black jeans as they are not as conspicuous as blue jeans. With a dressy top, who's to really notice.

As long as you know what you are wearing will fit in with the other guest....If you are dressed nicely that is what really matters. Moms like to see their children dressed up, and that maybe part of where she is coming from......The most important thing is to be well dressed and comfortable.

Well, if the party is at a casual restaurant, I see nothing wrong with it. If you are also attending the confirmation at the church itself, I would look into what is considered acceptable dress there.

If you wear a dressy top with nice heels and bag and look allover put together than there is nothing wrong with it at all, I'm sure you will look nice.
