For instance, how can I be sure the appropriate people will receive it and how much should I leave for, say, a three-day stay?

I'm always stunned that so many of my friends and colleagues are clueless about leaving a tip for the maid, and righteous about having to do so.

Yes, it's absolutely appropriate in the US (I can't speak about other countries, becuase I know that tipping customs differ) to leave a tip EACH DAY that they accept service. (If you wait until the end of your stay, chances are likely that one maid who only took care of your room one time will get the tips intended for the others who provided service, as well.)

Two-to-three dollars per service is appropriate. If you don't feel like tipping, just put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on your door.

Don't listen to the reverend NERD. Obviously he can even afford a hotel room.

I have worked in many different areas of different hotels. I usually tip them one dollar per each star of the hotel, per night.

per instance if I stay 3 nights in a 5 star hotel, I tip the maid $5.00 per night. I always ask if the same maid will take care of my room during my stay. If that is the case I tip the maid the last day of my stay or if different maid, I tip daily in the room. Leave a note on your bed along with the money. This way you'll know for sure they get it. Most 5 star hotels and Grand tourism hotels are pretty good about distributing tips. You can also leave an envelope at the front desk at the time of check out. With your room number and the maids name.

Thank you for being kind to those who serve you.

Tip the maid service 20% of your total hotel bill, so the hotel can pay the maids very little and let them live on tips, as the restaurants do with waiters.

This is a relatively new thing and if your going to leave something you could leave like one does at a dinner table 10-20 percent. Most rooms I have run across have an envelope with the maids name on it and you could request her by calling the front desk and hand the tip over directly to her.

I generally do a few dollars a day, more if it's a pricey hotel.

These days there's usually a card giving you the name of the maid. I put the money on/under the card.

Maids make about $20,000/year or less.

It does depend on the quality of the hotel and also the service. A few dollars a day is fine.

if the room is cleaned properly and fully stocked with items that should be included (soap, shampoo, toilet paper, etc) then it's appropriate to tip $1 per night per person who stayed in the room or more if you wish to. any extra service by the housekeeping staff should be tipped separately. of course any tips are appreciated and none are required. do what feels right to you for the service you receive.

you ought to tip the maids. They freshen up when you and infrequently fairly nasty human beings. They do a demanding interest and they should be rewarded a touch better than the state minimum salary. you ought to oftentimes tip on the proper of your stay and go away it someone the position they're going to see it and its obviously marked for house responsibilities. in accordance on your stay & provider & how messy you're might want to confirm the quantity you go away.
