The ticket should have been accompanied by a payment schedule and where to send the payment. Bear in mind, it will be luck of the draw for you with the cop. If he shows up, you will be SOL, you will have to pay the tickets plus court costs.

The state-wide schedule for going 26+ mph over the limit is a fine (i.e. forfeitable bail) of $380. Don't look for this on the ticket--California tickets do NOT have any such schedule on them, although you will probably get a "courtesy notice" which will tell you the fine. Since there is a state-wide schedule, there is not a lot of variance between counties. The fine will be within a few bucks either way of $380 for each, so about $760.

You can go to traffic school for ONE of them (that can probably be taken care of online, and you won't have to return to California). It will actually cost a bit more, but will not result in a DMV report to your state or insurance company of a conviction. You can also pay the fine online or through the mail.

I would guess $600 to $1000 - the judges have some flexibility in their fines. The only fines listed in the vehicle code for speed are those for more than 100 mph (CVC 22348) - you're looking at $500 for the first, $750 for the 2nd and $1000 for the 3rd violation over 100 mpg - plus your DL being suspended.

In California, citations issued by the CHP usually do not have the fine on them - that's issued by the judge after he/she hears your story. Most other CA agencies also don't have the fine listed on the cite.

My suggestion - slow the hell down.

The real issue here is : Where was the "violation" committed? California. So California cops have jurisdiction to cite you. More interesting question is: if CA cops have the authority to STOP you in NV. They may cite you by sending you a ticket in the mail, but can they stop you out of their jurisdiction? I do believe this is a point you may want to bring up at the hearing anyway and see if you can make them squirm a bit. Do not listen to those idiots who are saying that you cannot win. You can win many times, and you will never know till you try it will you?

Here in beautiful california the judge will give you a fine to pay and surprise, surprise (as gomer pyle use to say) there is court costs which are added on as a bonus. The state is going broke so we need all the money we can get.

Those are going to be pretty stiff fines. Especially because the second one was more than 20mph over the speed limit.
I can't tell you the exact amount because CHP and the individual county you got the ticket in add surcharges; but you're looking at over $1,000 for the two of them.

You are looking at about $800 give or take. I drive California highways, at a good clip, all the time and have never been issued one speeding ticket. Thanks for distracting the Chips with your out of State tags and for the contribution to our tax base. Y'all come back again real soon.......LOL

If you can prove you were drinking at the time, they'll let you go home. Despite the efforts or organizations such as MADD, California still approves of drunk drivers. However, since you are from out of state, they will throw the book at you and better they "rape" your checkbook than you kill someone. Hopefully you will slow down and save a life including your own and settle down in Radiator Springs and take driving lessons from "Doc" Hudson. Sounds more like you are bragging rather than realizing the error of your ways.
