Believe me, it happens at least once a day where I work, and more where I used to.

These places would consequently be Dominos and Papa Johns.

that's on par with calling a business, and when the answer asking, "are you open?"

"no, I just stopped by to answer the phone." Here's your sign!

Where I live, most pizza places do deliver, but there are many who do not. Unless where you work actually has the word "delivery" in it's title, then one cannot assume you deliver. The best pizza places around here only offer pick-up or eat-in. This is sometimes found among the major chains too, we have 2 of these with locations that only offer pick-up service.

Not all pizza places do deliver, even in US College towns, hard as that is to believe. One of the best ones here in Gainesville, Florida that doesn't, but Gator Foods.com does deliver for them and many other restaurants. You have to contact the delivery service (by phone or internet) to place your order.

I once told my boss that people who call and ask if I know the hours made me want to say "Yes, I do." and hang up. Right then the phone rang, I answered "Hello, [business name] how can I help you? .... Yes, I can." and started to hang up. I saw her glaring at me and realized I had almost accidentally done what I had just threatened to do!!

It is maddening. I find that many places answer the phone "____ Pizza, is this for pick-up or delivery?" If you only deliver, you might try "____ Pizza delivery. What can we bring you tonight?"

Maybe they didnt get the number out of the book. I am new to my town and last night i wanted pizza...(i havent received a phone book yet). I checked my mailbox and saw in my junk mail probably 5 or 6 different pizza places (not a delivery). I chose Domino's bc i ve heard of it. Where im from it closed at 11PM ...but here it closes at 12midnight. I know bc I called and asked...lol! YAY ME!

Sometimes people just want to confirm that the pizza place will deliver it for 1) they want to know if it's free, 2) they want to know if they could deliver it to there house.

Well, I've called places and thought that they delivered, but they don't. Or they don't deliver in my area. I also know of some places that only deliver between certain times.

We have to ask because sometimes our local Pizza Hut doesn't have any delivery drivers.

I ask that, because I want to know if they deliver to my neighborhood. Sometimes it could be out of their service area.
