typicaly my wife takes her jewelery to the jewelers and they use their chemicals in a container with no skin contact, never heard of cancer from them though, good luck

There are a lot of new cleaning solutions and techniques that are safer now.
The best thing is to look at the ingredient and check the carcinogen list (see below).
You don't have to be in contact with certain carcinogen. Inhaling the fume can be bad as well.
