In the learning phase but need speaker recommendation for a system built around an Onkyo TX-SR674 a/v receiver. Would like an entire 6.1 system with in-ceiling rear speakers and one that will do double duty for music playing.

Beside the Onkyo no other power source is presently used. The system is going into a 3-walled room [the fourth wall was partially removed to give a 20ft opening into the kitchen]. The dimensions of the "viewing/listening" area is 13.5ft[w] x 19.5 ft[l] x 8ft[h. Of note, there is an additional 13.5FT[W] X 8ft[L] of open walking space beyond the initial 19.5ft long viewing/listening area that sound will "bleed" into too. Also the sound will bleed over into the parallel kitchen space with similar dimensions of 12.5ft x 27ft [19.5ft + 8ft] x 12.5ft. Also hardwood floors and about 8ft of double pane windows in the listening area.

Although I own B&W, Paradigm is a great deal and exceptional quailty in sound detail. I would also recommend a guide to getting the most out of your system, since you are installing in wall. Avia is a great source to fine tune your system, just add a SPL meter and your are in the game!

For Fronts: Titan Monitor
For center: Monitor CC-290
Sides: ADP-190
For rears: CS-150
Sub: Velodyne DD-12

You can fine tune this system a bit price wise...

Hi. It all depends on the type of sound quality you like.and the music you mainly listen to.One of the hardest decisions to make is selecting the speaker whose sound you can live with.
Basically there are two types of sound most loudspeakers produce (and many more in between !) There are those that have a fairly bright crisp detailed sound and others that sound a bit more restrained with a smooth clear easy to listen sound. This does not produce a duller sound than the first ones they are extremely detailed and sound great with all types of music.

An example of speakers with the bright crisp sound are made by Klipsch. This company has been around for more than 50 years and is a well respected name among audiophiles.

Most of the British loudspeakers (and some American designs) exhibit the second type of sound which is detailed smooth and very involving

I would recommend Klipsch if you mainly listen to pop rock etc. and either KEF,Wharfedale ,Monitor Audio or Tannoy if you like orchestral and classical .Of course both types of music will still sound good with both types of speaker especially the British ones which are happy with all types of music.
I hope this has been of some help for you.
Cheers.

Have a look bellow to get some ideas. There are other combinations you may prefer and if you shop around you could get better prices on ebay. You can use other subwoofers if you like ,they don't have to be from the same manufacturer of your main speakers as long as they blend in with the sound.
