My family brought me home cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm.
They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family, especially the little girls and boys.
The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them - all snuggled in the sheets.
I used to go for walks, often several times a day.
They even fought to hold the leash, I'm very proud to say!
These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory.
I now live in the shelter - without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference between the old one and the new.
The kids and I would grab a rug, for hours we would tug.
So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug.
They said I was out of control and would have to live outside.
This I didn't understand, although I tried and tried!
The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't the time.
I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime.
My life became so lonely in the backyard, on a chain.
I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.
So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why.
They said I caused an allergy, and then they each kissed me goodbye.
If I'd only had some training as a little pup.
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.
"You only have one day left", I heard a worker say.
Does that mean I have a second chance?
Do I go home today?

Not only have I read this before but I see examples of it everyday and yes this story is sad but it is exactly how the poor dogs end up. This kind of story is the reason why spay and neuter laws will not change the fact that dogs still end up being dumped at shelters and then eventually euthanized. This is precisely the reason why education is more important than creating S/N laws that will not work. As long as people continue to view dogs as being disposible this kind of story will continue to be a harsh reality.

"Two Voices"
Hello, Wow its been so long
I've slowly sharpened my lifestyle,
can you tell?
Look at our music it calls us together.
I can understand their reasons
I feel them so strong inside.
Dreaming is my past life,
Im thinking better, this I feel
You listen so very sweet.
As if you seek my very will.
I know now where the change came from. It
was not you, not myself, maybe them. "Phone rings"
Is this God? No. This is within your soul
from where your bound. You can not hang up
You did not answer
You seek self-gratification-? Is this fare.
Go on now speak the truth
be bold not scared and scattered thoughts
No more time No more fake
Just these needed tears.

That makes me cry, but it is the sad truth, and I wish more people would realizes what they are doing before they do it. I wish people would realize who is at fault for bad behavior in dogs. And the sad truth is the innocent dog always suffers because of human ignorance, and irresponsibilty

That is soooo heart breaking and sooo true. So many people dont train pups right from the beginning and then just get rid of them. That just sadens me. Thank you for posting that. I hope it makes a difference in many people.

I've read this before - and it's still just as heartbreaking. If only people could read this before they got that dog they don't know how to train or look after!
