I have been doing the same thing for 36 years; started when we used hand cranked adding machines and a ball point pen. As far as tax software goes I followed computer development and the birth of tax programs from day one. Since 1998 I have used only a software called Taxwise; it is reasonably priced, performs a wonderful job, is user friendly, has good tech support and (knocking on wood) I have had very few problems in all the years I have used it. Just renewed my service with it for 2007. For details and particulars feel free to contact the guy I dealt with at Taxwise sales---Jeremy Gray at 1-800-755-9473 ext 2824. He is knowledgable and has been completely honest in his dealings with me. I appreciate knowing and dealing with an honest person in this day and age. He will not try and hard sell you something you don't need and he gets you an answer for whatever questions you put to him. I have sampled and test run other tax software programs and compared them in past years but I am afraid the one I like best is Taxwise. They are also reasonably priced; which to me is important as I live in a poverty stricken area and do many returns gratis.
ps. Read the negative taxwise blurb and cannot figure out where they are coming from. Since 1998 I have found them to be nothing but the best.

TaxWise sucks to the max, put it at bottom of list
the IRS uses it,, but it sucks.....
can't help on what is best one,, just on what is worst one
PS
taxwise blurb? Me thinks you are working for taxwise,,
it's simple to see you have never used any other tax software. How many updates did taxwise have this year? and when was the last one,, a couple of days after the filing deadline? Only 10 updates this season,, one of the best years ever. Sure they have tech support, and plenty of it cuz it is needed. Why is it that you can buy tax software from other companies and not need updates?? Plenty of people will tell you it's not just bad tax software, it is the worst software of any kind ever. It's higher priced than other tax software, like the old Quasar TV sets, highest priced and worth it,, cuz they was in the shop all the time and they need to charge you to cover the warranty repairs. Taxwise has a very small percentage of the overall tax business for a reason. The IRS has used taxwise for 11 years,, that should tell you everything you need to know. I wouldn't even put taxwise on the list of possabilities,, but do what you wish,, you've been warned.
