so my mtx thunder tc3001's manual recommends i use 4 gage for best result but i dont have any so i used two 8gage wires to run from the battery to the amplifier as well as for the ground (2 8gage from ground to amp) so my question is will it amount to as much power as a 4gage or even close ? and is there any risk? a guy at a stereo place told me it would be ok,it should amount to just as much power as a 4gage...but just want to double check i dont want to blow anything up

A combination of two 8-gauge wires is equal to 5-gauge. Just be sure that each wire has its own fuse at the battery; for 8-gauge wiring, I'd stick to 40-amp fuses to be safe. You shouldn't have any problems with this setup, unless the wire run is unusually long.

(2) 8 guages does not quite equal a 4 guage but will suffice and you should not cause damage to your amp or vehicle as long as both lines are individually fused.

FYI, Depending on your car, your alternator probably does not even put out enough current to take full advantage of a 4 gauge wire.

this should in no way cause damage. It is, however, not the best way to do it. It won't deliver quite as much power. A power wire is like a long piece of pvc pipe, full of ping pong balls. After a its full you start pushing the balls out the other side. In the same way a power wire only carries a certain ammount of current depending on gauge and length.
