just check out random galleries... find small ones you didn't know exsisted. fill up your cv with shows at coffeeshops, bars, little hole-in-the-wall places. galleries will show you if they know others have already shown your stuff.

Go to your local bookstores referance section and buy the artists and graphic designers referance guide. Lists of buyers,galleries, sellers etc. How to approach each of them,ehat they accept, how they pay-everything. A yearly guide-about 25.00. Great learning tool too.

That's not how it works. That is the excuse if you are not good enough. If you are good they will take you no matter how 'busy' or how 'full' they are.
