Do you think that it's really up to her??? I don't know what to tell her.

If you're under the age of 18 years, it is up to her.
If you're over the age of 18 years, it is up to you - unless you still live under her roof and don't pay rent.

Try telling her the truth as to why you want to quit.

Depending on age but even a very young child knows when they do not like something. As for karate or any matial art there should not be anyone telling you you have to do it. Now on the other hand if you agreed to the classes and just want to quit you should stick it out, atleast til the end of the contract. If you are not intrested your not intrested. I think the best way to handle it is to approach your mother and out right explain your side. Win or loose at least you let your view be known.
My two boys asked to take karate lessons, they got started in a 8 week program and two weeks into it wanted to quit. Before hand we explained that if they signed up they were going those 8 weeks, reguardless, they agreed. I told them that they had to honor their side of the deal just like anyone else. After the 8 weeks they thought about it and both decided to not continue.
Don't make any rash, spur of the moment decisions about this, but if you have really thought it out and really do not want to continue, make sure your mother knows how you feel.

How is your school work?
How is your ability to get along with others?
Work as a team?
Set goals?
Better yourself?
These are all a part of Karate, and in so you should be Thanking your Mom.
Maybe you need a better teacher with a better curriculum that keeps up your interest. When I practiced Lua Lua the teacher always had a list of things we did, making never a dull moment.
Ask your teacher about the course and talk about your losing interest. A good teacher needs to also be a good student.
And the class is based on you, the student. Help your teacher better make a class for you, become part of it and help it grow. You see it's flaws, rather than quit because of them why not make them better for you and the next kid like you.

OK I just went through this with my son.

First find out if your mom paid for training in advance, if she did you should at least stick it out until that runs outs.

Second you need to know why she doesn’t want you to quit, are you close to your black belt? Does she want you to be able to defend yourself? Does she want you to keep in shape? Basically you need to ask her why she doesn’t want you to quit.

Once you know the answer to that, then you can come up with a plan to quit.

In my son’s case, he now has to go to the gym five days a week and work out. My goal for him was to keep him in shape for health reasons. I’m type II diabetic and it runs in my family and race, (NA). He really doesn’t like TKD, and was only half way to his black belt, but he knows it he sloughs off he’ll be taking TKD again with me.

Now that said, how close are you to black? If you only have a year or two stick it out. Trust me when you’re looking for a job and they see you stuck Karate out long enough to get a black belt it counts. It might be the thing that tips the balance in your favor, especially when you’re looking for that first or second job and you don’t have a lot of work history.

Just one last thought, if you stick it out and get a black belt, you will never look back and never ask your mom why she let you quit. Many a person has looked back on their life and said, why didn’t I finish that? Just something to think about.

Good luck either way.

Just flake on going to the martial arts classes. Sooner or later she will accept the fact that you really don't wanna go. The samething happened to me. My mom forced me to go to Chinese school on the weekends amd I keep failing my classes. My mom eveantually gave up paying for classes that I keep failing in so she stopped taking me. It took me 7 years to get her to stop though.

We do not know how long you have gone and how many things you may have quit already. It also may be she paid in advance for a time period. Why don't you ask her so you will know the truth.

If you made a big stink about learning it in the first place, don't you think she has a right to hold you to any promises that you made to her about following through?
