Ok I got my first tattoo ever on wednesday in a fit of mania. And now I'm having paranoid worry issues with it healing ok and such. I have some...health issues...you could say and I really didn't go about the whole thing like I should. I mean I got it in a great shop and I'm following the instructions about caring for it, but I really should've consulted my docs first. So basically can anyone give me the run down of the normal healing process? And is it ever going to stop itching...because I'm losing my mind here. Thanks for any help!

It's my daughter's initials inside of a heart on the inside of my wrist.
And Don N...I've been planning to get this exact tattoo for two years. I've just never gotten up the balls to do it due to a fear of needles, people, and pain in general. So really the only thing I would change about the experience is that I wish I had waited till my cousin was there with me like we had planned. But it was still a great experience. And mania...isn't being immature and it isn't something you grow out of. I understand that some people use it as just a word but I'm using in a completely clinical term. I'm bipolar...and I understand and control that. So yeah I got a tattoo...that I was planning to get...that I like...that's important to me and my family. It's not like I went out and bought a toy I couldn't afford or played the whore or something...both of which unfortunately are some examples of what happens when some people are manic. Don't be disrespectful please.

the itching WILL STOP!! i know how frustrating it can be because my back is itching right now. everybody is different but most people have stopped itching, peeling and all by the 14th day after the tattoo. some people heal faster and some slower so the best way to tell if your tattoo is healed or not is to compare it with the texture of the rest of your skin. if it feels the same then it is healed. if it is softer and smoother or rougher than the rest of your surrounding skin then it is still not done healing.
congratulations on getting up the nerve to have your first tattoo!

Unless you have a health issue you've not mentioned like diabetes or something like that then you have nothing to worry about. Itching is totally normal and is part of the healing process. I have 7 tattoos and they all itched to some degree or another. I saw where someone said to slap it rather than scratch and I have to agree with that. Patting it seems to really help. As for being impulsive...so what? No harm, no foul.

I got my first tattoo about six months ago and it healed fine. Whatever you do DO NOT pick at any scabs, it you do the ink can run out, my roomate did this and not her tattoo is missing a spot. For the first 24-48 hours keep it covered. When you take a shower be sure to rinse your tattoo in cool running water...(seals in the color better) If you want to keep it moisturized be safe and use baby lotion. Mine is about 5 inches long and only took like two weeks to fully heal. Well hopr this helps. And I hope you like your new tattoo.
No swimming or direct sunlight for two weeks as well.

The itch means it's healing. I used those vitamin e capsules on mine and it was healed completely within a week. You just pierce it with a needle and squeeze the serum out and apply it moderatley over the entire tattoo a couple times a day. This will help it heal dramaticly. Oh and it also adds moisture so it won't itch as bad to.

I have 10 tattoos. My last one took 4 1/2 hours. It is normal for it to itch for a little while :) Make sure you don't use heavy ointments on it. They will cause it to have a longer healing time. I just use Lubriderm lotion. My last one healed in about a weeks or so. It usually depends on where you got it. If it is on a body part that you use alot (ie: hand) It will take a little longer.

lubriderm lotion (the plain one) is supposed to be the best. keep it covered and you can keep it wrapped, but not totally necessary. i personally have no tattoos, however, my husband has many and since I'm the wife I'm also the caregiver. I go with him to get all of his tattos and this is what we always do. itching is totally normal, 1-2 weeks for that dependent on the size. keep sunscreen on it when in the sun, it helps to preserve those beauties!

itching is a sign its healing, just like any other scab, keep looking after it properly and you will be just fine, if you can reach it-when it itches, give it a sharp slap, i know this sounds ridiculous, but trust me it works, i worked in a studio for years and have many many ta2's
do not cover it during the healing process unless you work in an etremely dusty environment, it will prevent it from breathing

yes i will stop itching, DONT stratch it! slap it. lol sounds werid but thats what they told me to do. keep it moist (tattoo goo works really good), no tanning bed (it will fade), and try not to let your clothes rub it too much. i have a small tattoo on my hip, about the size of a half dollar. it took about 3 weeks to heal.

You didn't say what your tattoo was. I think you have to keep a heavy moisturiser on it for a couple of days or so, and not to get it sunburnt, or exposed to the sun for a week.
